Shadow has what looks to be a sore or wound near the base of his tail. My guess is that he caused it by licking or biting at the area and it's a bit red. What's the way to clean it and is there anything that can be put on it? It doesn't look to be anything serious, I just don't want it to get infected.

Thanks.

I would imagine the best way would be the same as you clean their eyes, a little baby oil in warm water with a cotton ball. You may want to use some of the pet safe polysporin (?) on the wound

I might use a little saline solution to rinse it. If it is red though, it may be infected already. Is there heat coming off the area?

Thanks for the replies.

There isn't any heat coming off the wound but it seems to be getting larger. The vet is coming over Monday morning to look at it. In the meantime I've kept trying to keep it clean the best I can.
