Thought I'd share this, after reading the cats turning doorknobs thread...
One of my cat books (don't remember which one) says that wild cats don't meow unless they're mating or fighting. So why do they meow so much around humans?
Well, it's because they're smart. They recognize that humans communicate by sounds, so they start doing it, too.
Trying to figure out where I'd read this, I ran across "Hiss and Tell" by Pam Johnson-Bennett -- a fun read about a cat shrink! I recommend it!
