Can a cat's hair be too long?

I have a Ragdoll who has very long hair. The hair around her neck and chest is so long when she grooms it gets stuck in her mouth. She lifts her head as far as it will go while grooming and when she puts her head down there's the hair in her mouth. Seems like she doesn't get very much cleaning done, it just takes forever. Has anyone ever trimmed cat's fur? Should I just let it go?

Using a wide tooth comb would be very helpful to the cat.
