Adopting two kittens into single cat household

Thanks to both for your advice. The reason I was thinking two male kittens (and I was thinking siblings) is that I've heard the least likely to get along is two females (although not UNLIKELY, just less likely)..so I figured two male siblings might be best. I would be open to a male/female...

Adopting two kittens into single cat household

Hi all, We are considering adding a kitten to our household. We have a four year old female cat who is super sweet, and we've been told she gets along with other cats. (We rescued her about 9 months ago and she lived with dozens of cats at the rescue.) While super sweet, she is fairly aloof...

    Fleas!

Thanks for your advice! I do hope/think the apartment situation may be making things worse. Our vet said that apartments present "unique challenges" to flea control. I didn't really think about the fact that we could be bringing eggs and larvae in on our shoes...I always just thought about the...

Question on Miralax timing and ranatadine. Megacolon

I don't know if my former cat had megacolon, but she definitely had chronic constipation. We used the powdered miralax for years with her. It was the only thing that worked. We'd just sprinkle maybe half a tsp in some wet food. She was a small cat, but it was maybe 1/4-1/2 tsp. We didn't...

    Fleas!

I just moved to the southern US and am experiencing a flea outbreak like I haven't experienced since before the discovery of topical flea meds (what? 20 years ago?!?). A couple of months ago, we adopted a shelter kitty who was three years old. I didn't notice any fleas when I first got her. I...

Shelter kitty - first ringworm, now fecal incontinence?

Thanks for your response mrsgreenjeens. I took her back to the shelter just now, and they are going to send out the fecal sample tomorrow. They were super nice and I told them that even if she is treated, I'm not sure if she is the right cat for us. The vet even said that with having had...

Shelter kitty - first ringworm, now fecal incontinence?

I posted a few days ago about my shelter kitty with ringworm. That *seems* to be resolved, at least for now. She was on two weeks of terbinifine, and I gave her a lime sulphur dip when I got her home on Friday. I put an e collar on her for about 30-45 minutes, then we allowed her to groom...

    Ringworm in new shelter kitty

Well, we got kitty home and gave her the first lime sulphur dip. Pretty bad as expected. I did see a suspicious spot above her eye, so I am going to keep a close eye on that. Used a toothbrush dipped in the lime sulphur to really get it (I hope). Fingers still crossed.

    Ringworm in new shelter kitty

I'm cautiously optimistic. The shelter doesn't do dips nor cultures, so I'm not sure what their definition of ringworm free is. But since she is on oral meds (or was on oral meds) and I plan to dip her, I hope she WILL BE ringworm free soon. I read terbinifine stays in the system 5 weeks after...

    Ringworm in new shelter kitty

Thanks LonghornMom. This is so tricky, isn't it? Some cats get rw and it seems to be treated so easily and not spread and for others it is a nightmare! I just heard from the shelter/vet that kitty is clear of ringworm. So I plan on picking her up tomorrow and immediately bathing/dipping her...

Thank you Margd. I'll read the articles you referenced, and update this post with our progress. :)

    Ringworm in new shelter kitty

Sorry, just saw LavishSqualor's post. I think terbinifine is supposed to be one of the safer meds (?). The vet at the shelter said that they used to do the lime sulphur dips, but it stressed the cats out too much. Another local vet office I called said lime sulphur dips were "old school" (!!!)...

    Ringworm in new shelter kitty

No. I only spoke to the receptionist. I did call back and was told the vet would call me back (hopefully tomorrow) and that cats do usually get better faster when taken care of at home. Unless she's developed a lot more lesions, we think we will pick her up and deal with it on our own (with the...

    Ringworm in new shelter kitty

Hi all, I just adopted a shelter kitty who is around 9 months old. After having her home for five days, I saw a scaly patch on her ear that looked like ringworm. I took her back to the shelter who agreed she had ringworm and started treating her. They have had her for two weeks and are treating...
