    Pennies, Canadian

In the US, all pennies (cents) were copper before 1983 and copper-coated zinc thereafter. Would any of our friends to the North happen to know when Canada went to the cheap (zinc) cent coin, or are they still solid copper ? They all LOOK copper, but the newer ones are just plated zinc. Leonard

    Something is wrong with me

A friend of mine lost his 20 yr old son to suicide, and the son had SUCH a promising life ahead . . . I went to the funeral, and I was unable to even say "I'm sorry", I was so choked up, for when my friends hurt, then I hurt, too. I wanted to say all kinds of words of condolence, but instead I...

How much money do you need/want ?

How much money would it take to make you happy, or at least contented ? Leonard

    Self Defense -- protection

What do you do/use for self defense or protection ? I know that a lot of places have laws against owning or carrying a gun, but there are other methods, of course. I know that here, and I am sure it is the same in most major cities, there are places you don't want to be after the sun goes...

    Grey and the lizard

My bride, Betty, gave out a war-whoop earlier today, and I left the computer and went running and she was pointing to Grey, our 8 yr Manx-Munchkin and he had just come through the pet door from the unfinished basement and had captured a large lizard and was staring at us with the critter still...

    Questionable advertising on the site

I have a problem with some of the ads on the site, and although I realize that advertisers are the ones who "pay the freight" as it were, are our values becoming so jaded that we are to allow questionable ads as if they are an acceptable and integral part of our society ? ? One ad in particular...

    Horrible odor and sick cat

Last night, Betty woke me and asked "What IS that horrible smell, ?", and I didn't know, so we investigated and found Grey, our 8 yr old Stumpy Manx drooling a long train and his eyes were tearing horribly. The odor was like nothing I have ever smelled, similar to that of charred leather or...

    The Carrier

When we get a notice from the vet that it's time for one of our cats to be treated, we bring the carrier down from the attic and set it in the living room with the carrier door open. The cats all eye it with suspicion, wondering who the unlucky victim is, but after a few hours it becomes just...

    Inter-genus communicating

I wonder if any anthropologist has done research on whether different critters can communicate with each other ? Sort of like, can an ant talk to a kangaroo type of study. ? I know this sounds wierd, (are cat people wierd ?) but on occasion, I am almost convinced that my cats are telepathic...

Cats & water, like creeks or springs

Does anyone have a small creek or spring branch on their property available to cats ? How do the cats like it, and how do they use it ? Our manx/munchkin, Grey, is attracted to running water, in the sink or tub, and once he found my minnow bucket when I returned from an unsuccessful fishing...

    Scams on lost animals

I read in the Knoxville News Sentinel 03 05 05, that a scam artist was reading ads for lost pets on the 'net, and using a GPS, was locating the names of streets in the vicinity of the person who lost the animal, and the scam artist would contact the people and tell them that he found the animal...

I am SO proud of Tico

My little (?) garage cat, Tico, a rather hefty Holstein DS, likes the little window I installed down low in the garage door for her, and she sits in front of it and surveys the outside world. Last night I was in the garage, working at the workbench, and Tico was over at her window and she...

    Why can't I post on IMO ?

I have posted on other forum sites, but was denied permission to post on the IMO site. How do I get cleared to this facet of this wonderful world ? ? Leonard.

    Vet's could be more understanding

I won't go into how my wife, Betty, and I felt when we lost Bobcat. A lot of you have been there and you know it isn't an easy time. The vet called me the next day and said there were more charges that hadn't been taken care of, and how did I want to handle them ? I went in and paid him. I...

Grass for your cat ? ?

All 3 of ours like grass, and we grow it for them. Oats is the best, and 5 lbs can be bought from a feed store for less than a couple of bucks, and a half cup in an 8" cake pan with holes punched for drainage and an inch of potting soil beneath the seeds (spread evenly) and an inch over them...

    Hello, I'm Leonard

73, Retired, like cats, have 3, 2 black & white "holstiens" & 1 manx stumpy shorthair (Gray, his color & name also) Gray thinks he is a munchkin on the front end, as he sits with his rear elevated (as if the manx rear legs weren't long enough already) and his front legs bent till his chest is...
