Potential Injury with Attempt to Get in Carrier

Just to be clear, I was holding the crate in such a way where the opening was at the top, so the whole structure was facing vertically up. So the butt-first finagling wasn't pushing her in so much as lowering her into the opening (unsuccessfully). Ooh. Good to know — thank you! We've been...

Potential Injury with Attempt to Get in Carrier

I'm going to look up a cat holster. Is that like a harness? Or is that an actual product name? I'll also try actually putting her food in there too. You're right that one cat can be very different than another, but at this point, since we're starting from scratch with this girl in many ways...

Potential Injury with Attempt to Get in Carrier

Thank you for the advice. Standard front loader that we have is gigantic — probably mid-size dog size. The door itself is about as large as (if not larger) a cat top-loader. Maybe I just haven't found the right one yet...

Potential Injury with Attempt to Get in Carrier

Thanks for the tip. I've wondered about that, but most of the top loaders that I've looked at actually have a more narrow opening than the front door of the extra large standard carrier (like beagle size) we already have. Maybe I just need to search around some more...

Potential Injury with Attempt to Get in Carrier

Thanks so much for all this helpful feedback. I'll look into that other thread as well. I will have to ask them again about some Gabapentin. I'd inquired about it before, bit they said they don't encourage sedating animals in advance since the meds can bring significant risks. I know Gaba is a...

Potential Injury with Attempt to Get in Carrier

She's a gorgeous wounded girl, chock-full of emotional baggage and trust issues, but deserves to be loved. She's our little Holly Golightly kitty. (In this case, the cat is Holly, not the other way around.) ;)

Potential Injury with Attempt to Get in Carrier

Within the past year, my two beloved geriatric cats (litter mates) died. It was brutal. I had them since they were kittens, and they were so cooperative and docile. I was therefore spoiled/naive in my expectations from cats. They let me bathe them, clean their ears and teeth, check their...

SOS - Extremely low potassium, supplementation not "taking"

He was diagnosed with CKD. We're still waiting on the urine culture to come back to see if that might have falsely elevated his creatinine, but since he's been so thirsty and losing weight for months now, and his CREA was all the way at 5.0, I'm supposing this is the main beast.

SOS - Extremely low potassium, supplementation not "taking"

Thank you. Gus was diagnosed with CKD, which honestly, I expected to be one of the possibilities (the others being hyperthyroidism or diabetes). Unfortunately his numbers are at the highest margin of Stage III, so I'm not sure how much longer we'll have. I'll be starting at home sub-q this week...

SOS - Extremely low potassium, supplementation not "taking"

I'm so sorry for the months long reply. The end result was too painful that I couldn't bring myself to revisit. Poor Liz continued to lose intravenous potassium like it was through a sieve. I spoke with multiple vet's at the clinic (who in turn, had spoken with an internal medicine vet in a...

Possible FCV flare - do treatments work for resurgences?

Gus is a 16-year-old cat with a variety of mounting health issues I will share in another thread I'm pondering about when to choose home-based palliative care for a cat that is terrified and traumatized by vet visits, and also often ends up with stress-related UTIs after them. For now, even...

Possible FCV flare - do treatments work for resurgences?

Yikes! Somehow I just deleted my entire post. Paragraphs... Oh. My. Goodness. *facepalm* Stay tuned. Abbreviated recap coming soon...

Senior cat grieving or seriously ill?

Oh, and I forgot, four years ago, be had a bout of chronic pancreatitis that caused constant vomiting. Back then, with our vet input, we managed with prednisone, pepcid, and sub-q fluids for about a week. He still had occasional pukes, but made it past the worst.

Senior cat grieving or seriously ill?

I don't even know where to begin. I'm still grieving the loss of my 15 year old cat, Liz, who I posted about on here a few weeks ago. It so gutted me that I couldn't even return here to update yet or post on the rainbow bridge page. I was still deeply devastated I needed time. Instead, I'm...

SOS - Extremely low potassium, supplementation not "taking"

Her thyroid test came back clear (we were actually hoping for that as it would at least be treatable). Given her unaccounted for high blood pressure last year and the recently revealed heart murmur last night, they are thinking it is likely hyperaldosteronism (adrenal gland tumor), and we are...

SOS - Extremely low potassium, supplementation not "taking"

I'm hoping someone can give me some urgent feedback as we will have to make a decision on whether or not to let 16 year old Liz go later this evening. She had been acting weak and lethargic and walking timidly for a few days, and so we took her into the emergency vet yesterday. Kidney counts...

Senior cat took a tumble — worried

Update: She's not wanting to walk and, although we put her down from the bed to eat and drank 30 mins ago (she stood gingerly and drank), she plopped down right where she stood after. My husband then sat her down right outside the litter box door, and she laid down on the mat right outside it...

Senior cat took a tumble — worried

Thanks so much, all. Still waiting to hear back from the vet and still at an anxiety high, but now better equipped to arm myself with the reminder that this might not be the end yet. We may just be moving to a new, new-normal. This is a picture of the two of them the other day. Liz is on the...

Senior cat took a tumble — worried

Thanks. I'm trying remind myself it could be anything. Gus, her brother/littermate, has walked with a hugely pronounced like in his hind end for years. X-rays never showed any problem, so we've assumed neuro causes. He gets around fine, just slowly. Liz has just always been the agile, spry...

Senior cat took a tumble — worried

Yikes! Di, I think I accidentally hit "report" on your post instead of "purraise." If you get any feedback about that, it was just my flying fingers and scatterbrain. 🙂
