Like someone else said, get a bed protector. (Clean the bed really well first)

I agree with you, if you don't see improvement (within a few weeks) then definitely see a vet.
I have a similar redness (but also dry) on my 18 year old cat's ear on the inside. I think/hope it's allergies but don't know if anything has changed that might cause this.
