i agree! to be honest my cats aren't fussy but sometimes they do dig around for a while and even with a box they seem to tread it out but they don't dig that much wit a smaller amount and then it doesn't get tread into my carpet. less than a centimeter is perfect any more it still get every where.

just confine them to one room with food and water and plenty of toys and use two trays and if they make a bit of a mess try putting it in a cardboard box with a hole in the side

what type of litter tray do you have cos i have always put a normal one inside a cardboard box and made a hole in the side of it if that doesn't work try puppy pads under and around the tray or watch him an when he starts to pee/poop put him in the tray
