    bloated abdomen

Vet thought it was most likely lymphoma. But I know that this all started with runny eyes, sneezing and vomiting, which went through my cats one by one. I might be paranoid but I don't think they're eating as much as normal. And if it was lymphoma I'm still worried as I have speedy's mother and...

    bloated abdomen

Speedy was put to sleep today, we never did find out for sure what was wrong. Heartbroken, and very scared for my other cats :(

    bloated abdomen

Thank you. I was cutting a dressing off his leg today and it was upsetting him. His mother ran up and licked his head the whole time I was doing it. It was the sweetest thing, I thought the maternal bond was gone but it isn't.

so the vet went through the symptoms and all of the possible causes have bad outcomes. I've brought Speedy home to hospice :(

How often do you clean your cat bowls?

my cats have a problem with acne. I switched to metal bowls and wash them well after every meal. Their acne cleared up, but has made a return this summer. I think the reason is that I have no hot water in the summer so I'm washing the bowls in cold. But washing definitely makes a difference.

    bloated abdomen

Saw a different vet and Speedy's been admitted for dehydration and high temp of 104. He's had a blood panel which showed up anaemia, but liver fine and kidneys are ok. They sampled the liquid from his abdomen and it doesn't look like FIP. So it's still a mystery, and I'm still hoping someone...

    bloated abdomen

Oh sorry I forgot that. The vet wormed him, though he is wormed every 3 months and only 2 had passed. That was a few weeks ago and he isn't any less bloated.

    bloated abdomen

Hi, I'm posting about one of my grown up rescue kittens Speedy. He's a 2 yr old neutered male, his family were all very sick with cat flu when I took them in 2 years ago, and he seems to get flare ups of runny eyes and vomiting every so often. So I didn't pay too much attention when he started...

    steroids or anti-inflammatories?

Would soft tissue damage show up on xray - vet said xrays were fine, but since her back is obviously very painful that it was likely to be disc related. It's probably a side-effect from the abnormal gait caused by the hip dysplasia and luxating patellas. One week on the steroids and I'm not...

6 month old cat has chronic diarrhea

I took in a very malnourished stray with exactly the same, very gassy too. Tried everything, including treatment for giardia, changing to different food - nothing worked, but after about 4/5 months it cleared up by itself. Good nutrition and time might do the trick.

    steroids or anti-inflammatories?

Hi, I've posted before about my cat who has problems with luxating patellas. She's been managing quite well for about a year since surgery (with limited success). Last week she became gradually worse, had increasing difficulty walking.. I had some metacam which I gave her for a few days which...

    new kitten - quarantine?

I'm going to give L-lysine a try - I think you're right about feline herpes, the last kittens all had eye problems when I got them. One had to have an eye removed, and the other two are cross-eyed.

    new kitten - quarantine?

great idea, I'll find an overcoat to wear while visiting the kitten. I just found what I'm sure is one of her siblings run over about 4 miles up the road. Someone has been dumping them:(

    new kitten - quarantine?

thanks, that's what I feared. I guess it's worth it then to keep her out in the shed. It has a window, and is warm so she'll be quite comfortable.

    new kitten - quarantine?

thanks. I'm probably a bit paranoid because when i took in the last group, my own cats got very sick with catflu (despite being fully vaccinated). In that case I had the newcomers confined to one room with no contact with my cats, I used different bowls and different sinks to wash up in, washed...

    new kitten - quarantine?

I'd like to hear what precautions some of you rescuers out there take when you bring in a new kitten. I've had yet another kitten dumped here, and so far have her confined in a shed. Even though my own 5 cats are fully vaccinated, some of them had very bad cat flu when I got them and still get...

    Worms

I wonder if it was Advantage multi - known over here as Advocate, it's a flea and worm treatment but doesn't cover tapeworm. I would go to another vet for starters, and ask for a wormer that covers tapeworm.

    Frontline and hair loss

that happened to one of mine, he got a bald patch after I used Frontline. Funny thing is that I've used it since and it never happened again.

    kennel cough?

thanks, I guess at least it's better than a virus since if they get bad I can get them antibiotics. Is there any way to boost their immune systems? it's always the same cats that get sick out of my lot.

    kennel cough?

Ok, this is a bit of a strange one... Some time ago I adopted a puppy from a shelter who was very ill with kennel cough. Soon afterwards 4 of my 5 cats became ill with a respiratory infection, quite bad but eventually cleared up without treatment. At the time I was told unequivocally that cats...
