    Evo Replacement

EVO is being discontinued. A cat, Olive (13 year old rescue), that I consider mine but my ex has (long story) will only eat EVO kibble. She has chronic kidney failure and I, as well as my ex, have tried numerous foods to switch her to something more kidney friendly. She'd rather starve than eat...

Indoor cat thrown outside MN How can I help?

Can you suggest they get a heat lamp for the cat?  At least she'd be warm then.  Or maybe get one for them?  A heated pad for the kennel might help too.  We had barn cats growing up in MN but they had the barn and they hogged the heat lamps we had for the lambs and they grew up in the barn so...

    Heart murmur

A couple weeks ago Bobke had some kind of weird tongue burn.  We have no idea how it happened.  I brought him to the vet and he was put on antibiotics (Clavamox) for a week and pain meds for 4 days.  He seemed to do better as soon as the pain meds took effect and his tongue's redness went down...

What was wrong with my cat?

Maybe a thyroid condition?  2 cups a day is a lot of food!  Our 5 cats eat that much in a day between all of them (and they do act like they're starved).  Science Diet is not a good food and the diet stuff is just full of fillers to make them feel fuller but it was considered a decent food not...

oral squamous cell carcinoma/help with eating

Yes!  Our other cat injured his tongue just this past weekend (yeah, we have horrible luck).  He got antibiotics and pain killers.  He was most able to eat about a 1/2 hour after the pain meds (these were the liquid, oral kind absorbed under the tongue... buprinorphrine??).

oral squamous cell carcinoma/help with eating

Our cat was diagnosed with the same last month.  His tumor is on the side and back of his jaw.  He had a debulking surgery but he didn't have any stitches put in and he recovered pretty well.  Would the vet be able to take out the stitches since that seems to be bothering him?  The mouth heals...

    Red tongue and drooling

Update on Bobke: He went to the vet Monday and it is still a mystery what happened to his tongue.  The vet said it looks like he burned it and the surface is sloughed off leaving the raw tissue exposed.  He gave us antibiotics (his breath stinks like it's infected) and pain killers along with...

    Red tongue and drooling

He doesn't go outside.  He goes into our garage but it is always closed and we have no chemicals he can get into.  We leave the car maintenance to the professionals so no drip pans or puddles and our yard equipment is in a separate building.  I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow when the...

    Red tongue and drooling

Bobke is a 4 year old DSH.  Today I noticed his lips were wet.  We couldn't see anything in his mouth so we figured he had just had a messy drink of water (not typical of him).  He hasn't really acted like himself but nothing really obvious.  Last night he slept with me which is unusual (too...

    Newfoundlands

The Newfoundland Club has a listing of rescues.  Depending on where you live you might have to drive for one: http://www.ncarescue.org/pages/rescuemap.html Their home page also has a listing of regional clubs which you could contact to find a reputable breeder.  If you go with a breeder, make...

    Cats and birds?

We have five cats and two birds - a Timneh African Grey Parrot and a Yellow-naped Amazon Parrot.  Our cats have been taught that they aren't allowed to "hunt" the birds.  Our newest cat addition is still learning so he is not left alone with the birds.  Our birds can do quite a bit of damage to...

    Fig and our ferocious dog

Fig was lying on DH's lap but DH got up so the next warm body was victim to his snuggling.  That was Max, our Staffy Bull.

    Adopted a new kitty!!

Adorable!  And I think the lion cuts on Persians make them look all regal.  Our Louie has had lion cuts and he struts around the house like he really is a lion.

Must-have grooming tools for long-haired cats?

We just use a comb on our Persian mix.  It's kind of a semi-fine toothed comb.  That has been the only grooming tool I've used on him and it works great to pull out the loose hair.  I use it almost flat against his body so that it's really grabbing hair as I comb.  Pay more attention to the...

    New cat!

As a typical Rex he's not too stressed. He's met all the dogs and shows no fear. He climbs all over us purring. He's eating like a horse and using the litterbox. Our other Rex Frida is the same way. If we have company she has to be the center of attention.

My cat may have thrown up feces

It isn't impossible to throw up feces. It could be a sign of an obstruction (we had a Dane with an obstruction throwing up feces, and you think cleaning up regular vomit is bad...). If it really is feces (if it smells like feces, it probably is) you should bring the cat to the vet.

    New cat!

Yesterday we drove 4 1/2 hours (one way) to adopt another Cornish Rex. His name was James and he's 4 years old. We're changing his name to Fig. We found out from his foster mom that he's a former show cat. I had to corner him on top of a dresser to get a picture: DH then came and helped but...

    Ned has a tumor

Ned went in for his "bulk removal" surgery yesterday and he did great! They said not to feed him until this morning but he was so famished last night he was trying to steal our dinner. I gave him a little bit of canned food and he inhaled it (and kept it down). I think he was having so much...
