Hmm. That sounds more like roundworms. If it is, then, as Stephanie said, a bit of feces could have been tracked into their home with no one noticing it, and the cat might have ingested it, either deliberately or while cleaning its feet.

Dusty's Mom, what type of worm does the kitty have? A single flea, if it gets indoors and is ingested by the cat, might be able to give it tapeworm. And even a small bit of raw meat or raw fish might give a cat worms.
