    yup... it's a brand new mattress, right out of the plastic (a novaform, no less). maybe that's it. thanks for all the help (and the link about pooping outside the box was really helpful--thanks)!

    that's the problem. i've taken him in three times (to 2 different vets) and they all say he's fine. they said it may be stress, but to be honest, there shouldn't be any stress in his life! he's an indoor cat. no new moves or new kitties in his life. i do have a 2nd cat, but they get along great...

    definitely not urine. it smelled like something had died on the duvet... there were a few tiny dots of something brown, but really small... and the smell was overpowering...

    he's strictly indoors. he's way OVERLY affectionate and does poop outside the box on a pretty regular basis (at least 3-4 times a week). the spraying is something new.... do you think he's angry? or marking new territory? thanks! beth

    all over my new bed! argh! he's a 3 y.o. neutered male who does show a few other weird behaviors, but this is the first time he's done this. it was the worst smell EVER. any thoughts on what it could be or what caused him to do this? thanks!!!
