Trying to figure out water drinking behavior

I do keep the water fountain in a different place. The thing is, even when I do leave the tap running, he can't seem to figure it out, and ends up sneezing more than he drinks. I've seen that water fountain pictured above and it looks kind of like what he would want. But, does it have a...

Trying to figure out water drinking behavior

So this is more of a behavior question than it is nutrition. When he figures it out, he'll drink. But it's almost like he doesn't know how to drink water. Obviously started with just leaving a water bowl out when I got him, and realized he wasn't really drinking much, and transitioned to as...

    Shy cat adjustment issues

I had a very shy cat that didn't like change at all. In the shelter he was totally a cuddlebug, but as soon as I took him home to my relatively small apartment, he hissed and then hid. Luckily he hid behind the washing machine, which was right next to the litter and near the kitchen where I had...

    Hyper cat

A further update. While he seemed like he was improving, this weekend he became super crazy. Just some of the things he has started to do Perch on the loft railing overlooking the living room, which if he fell, would be a good 12 foot drop on to a wood floor He's been very interested in a...

    Feeding strategies while away/on vacation

So eventually I'm going to either be away for business or go on vacation, which has been more or less wishful thinking these past few months. My new cat also was adopted right as the quarantine started, so he only knows me being home all day long, so I've been able to feed him wet food 3-4...

    Hyper cat

So, a little improvement during the day when working. My office is in my loft, and while I don't normally watch TV up there, I still had an old TV that was I never using. So today I got it all set up with an old Roku I had as well, and searched for some cat videos on YouTube. Plenty of multi...

    Hyper cat

I'm used to aloof, since my old cat was the very definition of aloof. But he also gave up easily, so if I didn't want to let him in somewhere or whatever (he barely played), he'd be like, ah, forget it. I'll go to sleep now. When he finally does calm down and is ready to sleep, he has a bed...

    Hyper cat

I definitely want to go in to the idea of a second cat very carefully, as I don't want to just double the problems. I'd also hate to get a really chill cat that he just ends up bothering constantly. What's odd is that he has been a totally calm sweetheart today. It's almost like he knew he was...

    Hyper cat

I adopted a new cat right about when the quarantine started after my old cat passed away. He aclimated to the house right away, and is also very attached to me, so that's a good thing. But, he is really hyper. I think he is less than a year old. I try to play with him as much as possible...

    New Hiding and Terrified Cat

I should update everyone with the excellent progress that I've made.  When I was feeding him, he would come to me and let me pet him and he'd rub against me.  Over the next few days, I was slowly moving where I was lying on the ground further and further away.  I had put a down comforter on the...

    New Hiding and Terrified Cat

While he is still hiding, I'm making some small progress.  When I feed him I stick around talking and let him slowly come out of hiding.  So far, he has only eaten for about 30 or seconds before he retreats back to his hiding spot, but that is better than he was.  This is so foreign to me.  Any...

    New Hiding and Terrified Cat

I've been doing the slow blink with him, and trying to talk plenty with him.  Since he's behind the washing machine, I really can't get near him at all.  I talked to a volunteer at the shelter, and they mentioned that he took a really long time to acclimate to new environments.

    New Hiding and Terrified Cat

I just adopted a new cat, a 2 year old boy named Dublin.  In the shelter, he was the sweetest and friendly cat that I saw.  I was able to easily pick him up and put him on my lap. He was letting me rub his belly and was nearly about to fall asleep!  I knew this was the cat for me.  That's what...

Cat needs my "purr-mission" to eat

She actually does seem to be a little bit better.  Not as distant as she was, seems to be eating a little more, and not spending as much time on the bathroom sink.

Cat needs my "purr-mission" to eat

Thanks.  She had some blood taken and an x-ray done.  Should know those results on Monday.  The vet said he felt some sort of mass in her abdomen.  Hopefully it's only an infection.  He gave her an antibiotic as well.

Cat needs my "purr-mission" to eat

Good point about not leaning down to eat.  She would normally sit while she eats, now she stands.  And she's been resting on the bathroom counter.

Cat needs my "purr-mission" to eat

I'm bringing her in for a checkup on Saturday just to be sure everything is good.  She loves going to the vet.  Not.  Luckily it's only about five minutes away.

Cat needs my "purr-mission" to eat

She's about 8.  I feed her typically in the morning and night, but since she has been doing this recently, I've kind of increased it.  Or I should say reduced the food in each serving, or if it was recently put out, I just have to pick it up and mix it up a little bit and put it back down and...

Cat needs my "purr-mission" to eat

She's always been a little like this, but it has gotten worse recently.  I recently switched from dry to wet food.  The dry food had been forcing her to upchuck frequently.  She loves the wet food.  But, even though she has plenty of food left in her dish, even quite new, she many times needs me...

    Pawing at walls

My cat does this, mainly as a means of getting my attention.  It's when I'm ignoring her wishes.  She uses the pads on her paws to make it as loud as possible.
