sad to hear that a 1mth old kitten had to separate fr his mom. do advise ur friend although knowing that ur friend may not like it. what is important that to tell ur friend the truth. whether ur friend wud take it or leave it, it wud be entirely up to ur friend at the end.

i guessed u juz hv to wait till ur cat comes back. it is indeed a good idea to keep ur cats indoor n as u'd mentioned of reducing the chance of being run over n also reducing the chance being bitten or contracted harmful diseases...
our age is juz a number n we shud not be feel uncomfortable by it. it is juz a number!!! anyway, u will b old shud u feel one. abt companionship, did u consider of going somewhere else? i mean working in different environment perhaps? join clubs or other activities?
indeed it is sad but it's reality. fr where i came from, sadly to say that many do not agree in neutering due to god knows what reason. they wud rather bred a lot n rehome as a whole cat. these ppl knew abt the over-population of strays but choose to ignore them. sad to say...
