    Senior cat, is it time?

It was time so at 3:10 this afternoon, Skunk crossed the rainbow bridge.  He fought the good fight, but just couldn't beat it this time.

    Senior Kitty Barely Eatingg

I'm going through the same issue with my 18 year old cat Skunk.  He has FIV, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.  I just posted in that thread called "senior cat, is it time?" if you want to check it out for some tips and thoughts.  I also recommend checking out www.felinecrf.org.  The...

    Senior cat, is it time?

Bad update here.  Skunk is refusing to eat anything, even with the appetite stimulant, and is back to just laying in one spot.  When I pick him up, he is just limp.  He'll still walk to get a drink or use the litter box, but that is it.  We go back to the vet tomorrow for more tests, and also to...

    Senior cat, is it time?

Thought I'd post an update!  Skunk is still eating better, and acting more lively.  My potassium supplement arrived today so I gave him some, and he ate better even without the appetite stimulant.  He's still not eating as much as he needs to ultimately, but I think he's been eating so little...

    Senior cat, is it time?

Skunk hates babyfood meat.  I have several jars still in my pantry from that attempt.  On a normal basis, he'll lick some gravy and eat a few bites of the meat, then turn away.  This morning, he still ate more than that at least.  I think nausea is a good possibility, I just don't want to...

    Senior cat, is it time?

Skunk still had a bit more of an appetite than normal, but not much more this morning. He was still a little more active, but not as much as last night either.  He'll get more diazepam tonight, though I'm hopeful to switch him to a different med by Monday due to the risks with the diazepam.

    Lucas is going blind:-(

I'm so sorry Lucas is going through this!  And you too!  I had a sweet kitty named Midas who was blind.  Never did figure out the cause (though I think my vet just wasn't very good), but he adjusted and still did great.  Even after babies came along and there were random items left in his path...

Need input - FIV+ and FIV- cats living together. Risks/Concerns

I've had three FIV+positive cats in the past 19 years.  Two have went on to the catnip field in the sky so I'm left with my remaining FIV+ cat Skunk.  I rescued two FIV- brothers a couple years ago.  Neither the rescue nor my vet were concerned with me bringing them together.  We introduced...

    Senior cat, is it time?

I know, I had no idea!  I looked for chicken livers at my local grocery store, but they only had beef livers.  I'll have to broaden my search.

    Senior cat, is it time?

I gave Skunk his B12 shot and the appetite stimulant, and he is eating like crazy!  He's also talking to me again, and loving on me!  Plus, for the first time in weeks, he is leaving his spot in front of the window and walking around, other than to water or the litter box.  It is a very...

    Senior cat, is it time?

Oh, I'm definitely not taking his friskies away!  Just going to offer a variety to see if anything else catches his attention.  Any food is better than none at this point!

    Senior cat, is it time?

I'm making one last effort to try to get a good combination together.  If it doesn't work, then I'll let him go.  We're adding B12 shots that I can give him at home for his anemia, and adding an appetite stimulant, an antacid, and switching out his phosphorous binder to one without calcium.  He...

    Senior cat, is it time?

Thanks for all your replies.  The CKD online community is fantastic with so much information.  I have spent a lot of time today calling around to area vets to try to find one who does blood transfusions and/or has CKD experience but have come up empty.  I live in a pretty rural area so have an...

    Senior cat, is it time?

I am the proud momma to an 18 year old tabby cat named Skunk.  He has FIV, diabetes, and was recently diagnosed with advanced chronic kidney disease.  The disease can be managed, and some cats can live for years with it.  I've been trying everything I can.  I give him 60 mlsubcutaneous fluids...
