    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

Patches is doing great. He's moving around the house (though he hides during the day and comes out at night) and comes over for attention as well as eats with the other cats. I've come across two new issues, though. The first is that, while my other three cats tolerate him, like him, and only...

    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

Update! Today he's been getting down from 'his chair' and has started exploring a bit more. There have been a few encounters, but he seems to feel safe enough to go down, explore, and go back (At least today). His tail is also pretty much all the time uncurled as well now. I'm super proud...

So, he's decided he likes being outside of his room. When he's out, he'll lay with us or just a bit away from us. He also seems to have no fear of us either (It's all pretty standard housecat behaviors now except that he doesn't come over to us). He's even used the main cat litter box (while...

I have the come with me kitty one somewhere in the house. It's been missing for years.

    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

Mine do their thing. I've got three (including him) in the room, one in the kitchen and one who knows where in the house. I wouldn't worry too much about him hiding if I weren't afraid that he was never going to come out and then become unsocial. I'm also worried about him not eating...

    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

Yeah. He's cute as heck, and everyone wants him but can't take him. So we're pretty sure he's ours now. I was looking at something they call 'escape proof' harnesses. They're like full body (almost like thunder shirts) harnesses.

For reference, this is his normal sitting position when he's out with us.

He's less friendly in his room. He'll be playful, but then lash out to scratch you. I'll try it, though. I just want him to be able to be integrated into the house and not have to be stuck in a room all by himself.

I'm not sure. He's gotten to the point where he'll sit with us and sleep in our arms as if he's comfortable. He'll stretch and show half his belly. Other times he'll try to/will run and hide under the couch/run into his room and hide/glare at us from the corner.

    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

New question. We've been keeping with us and out, and sometimes he's ok if we move away from him, but sometimes he runs and hides. What I'm wondering is how do I get him from being in his room and us pulling him out for socialization to being an integrated member of the house? My thought...

    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

He went back into his room! It's a major relief, but I have no idea where he was so I can't block it off! I do have another question, though. How do I manage to integrate him into the household? He's very shy and prefers to hide than come out around people. I've gotten to the point of him...

    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

EEP! So, I thought I'd been doing well with him, but now he's managed to go missing (again)! He was doing so well, coming up to me and rubbing against my leg when I was laying down, coming to the gate in front of his room and chilling out while waiting for me to come in and feed him in the...

I'm still worried that he's going to stay in the hiding somewhere and never coming out phase.

At the moment he's Patches. My mom named him because she complained that I name all the animals, but now she doesn't like the name. I think he's keeping Patches for the long haul though.

When he was neutered, they also gave him his shots and treated him for both worms and fleas. I did notice a spot under his chin and another on his face this afternoon that seemed scabbed over, but I think he could have gotten it while he was still outside. Pictures I can do. I've been trying...

    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

My one cat is like that with the picking up. She was a feral that we managed to get hold of when she was 2 months. She will attack you with love for petting, but if you try to pick her up she bolts before coming back for more petting. I guess I'm just afraid that him not coming to us at all...

    Feral Socializing Assistance Needed

Hi! So, I was trying to spay and neuter out surprise community cats (we had no idea they existed until we started seeing pawprints in the snow and had one give birth next to our front door). The one that we've managed to catch and neuter was extraordinarily tame, and we judged to be about...

Best way to help a cat with either IBS or Feline lymphoma to regain weight

I decided to change the diet of all the cats rather then just trying to change just Dexter's.  It's not something that would particularly hurt them and I was never terribly keen on the foods that we were feeding them in the first place (years and years ago I was a huge advocate of Neutro but...

Best way to help a cat with either IBS or Feline lymphoma to regain weight

After reading this (I happened to be in my car and heading home from work) I stopped by the pet store and picked up foods to completely cut grains and poultry out of all the cat's diets (for now). Ironically they all seem to agree that duck is right out as a food they like as when I tried to...

Best way to help a cat with either IBS or Feline lymphoma to regain weight

I'd honestly never thought of any of that.  For the past year and a half I've just been giving him whatever he'll eat since he kept losing weight and being in pain/miserable.  I know this is going to sound dumb, but what do you mean by a novel protein diet and how would I do that without...
