So an update! After a few days where it was touch and go (he had a nasty reaction to prescribed meds and after a full night of vomiting he had to spend 24+ on a drip along with being IV fed/hydrated because he was dehydrated and on the brink of going into a hypoglycemic shock), he is doing so...
He doesnt have a GI bleed! Or FIV, it seems, it's most likely nasty parasites. He's been put on a course of infusions and a lot more antibiotics to get him through this. Hopefully this will help
Update: the vet has ruled out FIV for now but has taken him in for emergency fluids today and tomorrow because he is severely anaemic. She also thinks he may have a GI bleed. I am devastated.
She was surprised at the anaemia because of his energy levels, so I guess that doesn't make me a...
Yeah, I'm definitely trying to get him used to his own space, haha. I don't mind him sleeping near me or in my room, but I also want him to be able to be comfortable even if I'm not home. The last thing I want to do is raise a kitten who grows up with separation anxiety.
Regarding his appetite...
Looool, yeah, we have everything from cheap to gourmet kitten food, it's just he seems to hate anything that's specifically for him. Boiled meats are fine, and fishes out of tins, meant for human consumption... but kitten food? Nope..
I'm going to take him to the vet again soon. His meds have...
Ok, I will try these suggestions! Thank you!
Re: the dry food- we have like 6 different kinds and he refuses all of them.... And like 8 different kinds of wet food and he hates all of them, too.
Hopefully this will change this week though! That's this week's mission. I'm am really glad he's...
So, tomorrow my baby will be 10 weeks old and thankfully in much better health! But he still avoids both wet and dry kitten food like the plague. We're feeding him tinned fish (sardines, mackerel, salmon) and boiled lamb and chicken in the meantime... alas, he avoids every type of kitten food...
So, my kitten is great with eating everything now except from kitten wet and dry food. As I mentioned before, we have about 14 different kinds from when we were desperate to try to get him to eat anything. Any idea on how to turn him onto what he's supposed to be eating?
Ok, so the runs have returned with a vengence and I took him to the vet! The vet has prescribed him some meds for a bacterial infection. If this doesn't work, we will run some bloods and see if it's viral.
I'm going to start him on the meds tonight. Hoping this helps clear up any remaining...
He's been eating well since yesterday guys, the KMR drowning the more solid foods has helped a lot! Ive just tried lamb and chicken wifh rice rn becuase hes still resistant to kitten food, but i will try that again later.
He finally has produced solid stools, which is brilliant! I'm still...
Update: shops were a bust on appropriate baby foods containing meat, but I did get him KMR and baby rice and he lapped it up!!!!! I'm so happy!!! Thank you everyone! I'm hoping the rice in particular will help with the runs.
I've also purchased sardines, salmon, mackerel, anchovies, and will...
Thanks for all of this. I will try the rice again- tried it once, and he wasn't interested, but I'll try flavouring it with broth now, and KMR later today when I get it, and seeing if that helps.
I got him drinking a lot last night! So I don't think dehydration will become a problem...
His eyes are brown, so from what you're saying, that sounds like a good sign at least.
It sounds like a good shout to mix KMR and the food his IS eating, so I will try that too. Thank you!
Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply! I'm going to go with ignoring whatever they told me at this point and telling the vet to run all the tests on Monday if nothing has changed, because I am concerned. To be fair, she was meant to do a wellness check a few days after she first saw him, but...
Thank you for your reply. I have not tried this, is it an American brand? I have never heard of it... sorry, I should have said in the original post- I'm UK based. I had heard of giving baby food as a potential solution to kitten appetite issues, but it was one of the few things I had not tried...
