    Melatonin for cats?

Just wanted to update this thread to say that I found what I realize in retrospect is a blindingly obvious solution... I was brainstorming ideas yesterday and started thinking about why it is that they go crazy when I turn the lights off no matter what time of night it is, and it dawned on me...

    Melatonin for cats?

I adopted mine at 5 and 7 months old, so I didn't really get to train them into those habits. Plus I went from a night shift to a day shift within the last 6 months. Thankfully they seem to think lights out means play for one hour like maniacs and then sleep soundly all night. I just need to...

    Melatonin for cats?

Yes, I actually followed the steps of this and other such articles already. Edit to add: And obviously I don't have the option of sleeping in a different room like I used to. Edit to add again: The good news is they don't wake me up once I fall asleep, it's only for the hour after I climb into...

    Melatonin for cats?

My living space recently changed and I'm now sleeping in the same room with my cats. I used to sleep in a separate room since I could never get any sleep when they were around. In some ways, it's been really nice to cuddle with them at night, and I feel good knowing that they aren't ever lonely...

I think my cat has pica - any advice on safe furniture?

I have not! She manages to rip apart toys designed for cats to chew, but perhaps baby toys would be safer. I will look into this... thank you!

I think my cat has pica - any advice on safe furniture?

My vet and I suspect my cat has pica - she likes to chew and rip things apart and eat them. She had abdominal surgery 2 months ago, and right now she is at the vet, who just induced vomiting because we suspected a foreign body. She was weaned very early and was also sick as a kitten (according...

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

Thank you, she has been on a strict medication schedule and is doing great. She is glued to me like a magnet, and I took my work desk into my emptied-out bedroom with just a mattress on the floor and lots of cat beds and she has been sleeping and cuddling and being very affectionate and eating...

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

Could be that the indoor/outdoor cat I used to live with was throwing up for other reasons. Maybe because it was grass from a dirt driveway where cars parked, or maybe it was one of a million other things that an outdoor cat can get into... who knows. My calico never threw up (maybe only once)...

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

I'm okay at growing plants, but I wouldn't say I have a green thumb, so I'm glad to hear it's easy to grow. Will definitely pick some up. Do cats tend to throw up more often if they have access to cat grass? I used to live with someone who had an indoor/outdoor cat, and his cat would throw grass...

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

Yep I think I will. She lacks any interest in fabric and always goes for the string/rope-like objects, so this is just a perfect solution.

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

Yeah, scrunchies would be cool. I wonder if it would be less tempting since it isn't a stringy, vaguely tube-shaped entity (that probably looks like some pretty yummy rat guts to a cat). Also I've seen those hair scrunchies that seem to have an entire yard of fabric sewn over the elastic... I...

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

Not a bad idea. Could maybe even secure a braid with it. Braiding is like my #1 choice (when it's actually long enough), and I have no idea how to secure a braid without a tie.

Also, I should note regarding the excessive vocalization and eating tiny amounts - I did take her to the vet for these issues, and after getting a physical, they were focused more on the fact that she has feline herpes virus and related, chronic symptoms from that, which we treat with lysine...

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

Thanks for that link! I didn't think of shoelaces at all - I will be quarantining those into their own place from now on. Yeah, it is kind of unfortunate that she has such a fixation on non-edible items. I did some cat-proofing before I ever adopted them and I wish I had read a proper guide on...

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

Thanks for your reply! The review that says "cats have lost/hidden all 4" is a bit concerning... I think I'll just get some hair sticks - they're a lot cooler anyways.

Phone Cord Hair Ties - Safe for cats that eat hair ties or no?

Hey everyone - my sweet, sweet calico Padma had to go in for surgery today. She had a clump of hair ties in her stomach. Had no idea she was swallowing them until the other night when my partner caught her in the act. We elected to monitor her for symptoms, and two days later (yesterday) she...

Do I need to be washing my cats bowls before every feeding?

Yep this seems like the way to do it. Going to pick up a couple more plates this week. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Do I need to be washing my cats bowls before every feeding?

They are grazers, otherwise I would do this. Takes em a few hours to finish each meal.

Do I need to be washing my cats bowls before every feeding?

Ah okay good to know. I'm also using ceramic, and they are the very shallow dishes to keep their whiskers happy. Guess I'll keep with the program then. Thanks for the reply!

Do I need to be washing my cats bowls before every feeding?

I feed my kitties 3 times a day and I soak and wash the bowls with soap and water every time. Is this necessary? I've been a little overwhelmed with all the little tasks I have to do every day and I'm trying to see where I can make my life easier. It only takes a few minutes to soak and clean...
