Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

Actually it was all the help I got from all of you pros out there! I got some of the best advice here and now all this time later he looks happy and healthy and is coming around quite nicely! It has been a trying experience but I am so happy I could give him a warm, loving home! Thanks to all...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

Not as well as I would like for sure after almost three months. He is still hiding under the bed most of the time. He is coming out to eat and use his box. He will stay out a few minutes until I stand up and he runs! I am very frustrated that he still does not trust me enough to come near me!

Mimi was in the shelter a really long time

You did give me that advice when I mentioned it before, and I took your advice! I just thought it odd that she would suggest that to me. But I do understand from what you are saying why they do it.

Mimi was in the shelter a really long time

That was kind of my reaction also. This kitty has NEVER been aggressive, attempted to bite, heck he doesn't even hiss! So I would not want to upset that gentleness that I can see already in him. Grabbing him could be catastrophic!

Mimi was in the shelter a really long time

I have not attempted to reach for him or try to pick him up (as much as I would like to) because I fear it will set him backwards instead of gaining more trust. I had one rescuer tell me not too long ago to yes, reach under the bed and take him out by the scruff and hold him for at least 30...

Mimi was in the shelter a really long time

Gosh this is so similar to my Arthur - I am enjoying reading about another rescued, hiding kitty! I too had many cats along the years and have never dealt with all the things you say above! It is strange actually to have a cat that does NOT interact and do normal cat things! My Arthur is in...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

WE are at what almost 11 weeks now. He comes out now and sits about 8 feet from me in the foyer and just watches me! It is so funny. He looks like he wants to come in here so bad, but just can't! I have moved his food - there is nothing upstairs at all now near his hiding spot under the bed...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

Just to update you all as you have all been so very helpful - after 10 weeks he is still not coming near me for attention. However, he is now coming out during the day for very short periods. I have to wonder why he insists on taking his paw and dragging his hard food out of the dish! That is...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

King Arthur came out the other night for a short time and I was able to get a quick photo - sorry about the glowing eyes! He did not stay out long, but here is a recent shot! Hoping to get more. I still cannot reach for him or approach him because he runs. Baby steps. Thought you all would...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

How wonderful for her! I so hope that happens here one day. It will be two months on Wednesday that he has been here and still won't come out from under the bed or approach me at all. If he does come out and I just walk towards him, he runs. I can still pet him while he is under the bed...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

A bush kitty? I have never heard that phrase. Is that bad or good! He does look at me. Especially when I lay on the floor and look at him under the bed. I do very slow blinks and he blinks mostly too. Sometimes he just stares at me!

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

I have not tried that, but I will! Was not sure if I should give him catnip at this point, but if you think it's okay I certainly will. Do you think that leaving his food up by the bed will keep him from eventually coming down to the kitchen to eat? Will it make him think that it is always...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

He won't even come out from under the bed so up high is probably alot to ask! I have one of those cat towers and he has not even approached it as far as I know. I am feeding him hard food which I leave for him to eat whenever he wants. I feed him a "treat" of soft food after dinner in the...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

Not as well as I hoped frankly, but after to listening to everyone here I think it's me. I think I am just getting impatient and expecting more of him after seven weeks than what I am seeing. He is still hiding under the bed all day long, coming out intermittently for very short periods to...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

Yes his food is just outside the room he hides in and he does come out to eat it. I guess I have to settle down and realize this is normal, just not something I am used to at all! I have had cats my whole life and this is a whole new game for me and I think I am just getting impatient! I...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

So looking for yeses or nos on this - I have decided to pull all his upstairs food. He has been here over six weeks and I think it might be time for him to start coming down to the kitchen to eat, which is where his food is. He seems to be pretty comfy under that darn bed and it makes sense to...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

I loved that "he is very polite" thing! Made me laugh. Believe me you guys are experts and your advice is amazingly good! I hope to one day tell you about one big breakthrough! Stay tuned and thank YOU!

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

Up to this point he has not approached me. I can lay on the floor and reach over and rub his ears for a bit and under his chin. He leans into my hand saying to me he likes it. Then he is done! He moves away. I always leave a few treats and tell him what a good boy he is! I talk to him...

Rescued 8 Year Old Declawed Gentleman and he is Still Hiding

I have to agree as I have also had two cats in the past that were front declawed by laser and they never had problems either. I think it all depends on who does it and how you have it done. I also hope it is true for him.
