Is it normal for a cat to lose weight when going onto adult food?

He’s an absolute nutter, doesn’t stop for a minute! In fact, at just over one year old he’s crazier than he’s ever been lol. I’ll definitely keep an eye, thanks!

Is it normal for a cat to lose weight when going onto adult food?

My Persian cat turned one in March so we put him onto adult food. I have always kept note of his weight due to my older cat having kidney issues so I weigh him frequently. At the most recent weigh in, I noticed my one year old has dropped around 300g. The only thing that has changed is he’s...

    Red mark on cats tongue?

Yeah he has none of them symptoms and eating like a pig as usual! I’m grateful in a way we caught his elevated kidney numbers early as we’ve been able to manage it very well and his numbers are now almost back in normal range. I hope your kidney cat is doing okay!

    Red mark on cats tongue?

Thanks, I just checked again and it’s basically gone which is good! I did read it could be an ulcer due to kidney disease but this is usually in the much later stages, and I don’t think an ulcer would disappear that quickly!

    Red mark on cats tongue?

Thanks! It’s going down more and more as the day goes on so think it could well be from biting his tongue! Need to stop him from scoffing his food in 2 mins flat haha

    Red mark on cats tongue?

He does scoff his food and it looks to be near his bottom tooth. I’ll keep an eye over the next few days and hope that is all it is!

    Red mark on cats tongue?

Hi, I noticed a red mark on the underside of my cats tongue today. Does anyone know what this might be and if it warrants a vet visit? He is a 3.5 year old Persian, on daily steroids for allergies and also has stage 1 kidney disease. Thanks!

please help - cat breathing issues and no vets can find out why

Sorry for the late response, I’ve been away! That is actually such a good point regarding acid reflux - he quite often gags and makes funny noises after he’s eaten. It could be linked. How do you treat that?!

please help - cat breathing issues and no vets can find out why

Hi furballsmom, we showed the vet a video yesterday but he didn’t seem concerned. He said it was likely due to him being a persian. I’m wondering how I can attach a video on here? It’s not the worst he’s sounded but at least I managed to get it!

please help - cat breathing issues and no vets can find out why

When we took Cecil to the emergency vets for his breathing the first time, she did an ultrasound on his lungs to check for fluid. The vet said his lungs were clear, so I'm hoping this doesn't point to it HCM (as it says symptoms come from fluid on the lungs). But I will ask again for sure!

please help - cat breathing issues and no vets can find out why

I spoke to the vet and he ruled out hyperthyroidism, his T4 number was actually on the low side!

please help - cat breathing issues and no vets can find out why

Thank you so much for the reply! When I'm back from my holidays I will schedule him in to get his airways looked at. I'll also look into those supplements as they sound very helpful. My mind has been in overdrive from his eposide last night and I have a few possible thoughts on what else could...

please help - cat breathing issues and no vets can find out why

Hi everyone, I am at a total loss on what's causing Cecil's breathing issue. Occasionally, when he's very relaxed and purring, he starts doing drawn-out breaths that sound a bit whistly. When it's at its worst, his mouth opens, his tongue comes out and he sort of sticks his head forward then...

Kitten rectal prolapse? Is this an emergency?

Hi everyone, Cedric is doing much better. Everything seems to be healing nicely with the steroid cream and anti inflammatories. I have learnt my lesson to leave my cats with non cat owners when I’m away!

Kitten rectal prolapse? Is this an emergency?

He said it’s not quite a prolapse yet, but it could’ve ended up that way if it was left much longer. In fact, he said there still could be a chance it happens, but since the meds it seems to have “gone back in” so to speak! Keeping everything crossed!

Kitten rectal prolapse? Is this an emergency?

Update - just got back from the vets. He has given pain relief, steroid cream and a paste to stop the diarrhoea. He’s hoping the meds will resolve the problem but if not it’s back for surgery :( I feel so awful

Kitten rectal prolapse? Is this an emergency?

Good morning everyone, 1 hour until the vets opens. I have hardly slept a wink. I’ve checked his bum this morning and I think it looks a little better. He is certainly in less pain than he was. Hoping it continues to get smaller, but still unsure if this is classed as a prolapse?

Kitten rectal prolapse? Is this an emergency?

I will do, I feel so awful that I left him here and this has happened. If I was home, I would’ve got the poop off straight away but my friend didn’t know what to do. As soon as I removed the poop he went for another one in his tray. It was soft, but I imagine he’s had to hold it since the last...
