In 2008, I was post college and post internship and having trouble finding a job. I applied for a job in the county elections office during the presidential election that year. Me, being super socially awkward, did not look forward to the part where I'd have to interact with the public. I was...
This bus pop up tent is my daughter's toy, but every night after she goes to bed, I find Piper playing with it. She hunts and attacks it. Lol. She isn't the most playful cat, so it's pretty funny. I need to try to get a video of her stalking and attacking it one of these nights.
I have been MIA lately, but here is Piper... judging me for the papers on the floor with her "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" face and her "We need to have a talk" crossed paws.
Bananas and blueberries are probably what I buy most often. Lately, it's been raspberries too since my daughter discovered her love for them. A lot of fruits... every week.
I feel like it's so hard to see her nubby little tail in pictures because she is so fluffy. So here is her little nub (which is super cute and vibrates when you pet her) all by itself:
And here it is pictured with the whole cat:
In Western PA it was -5 F this morning, but it is now 10 F. Yesterday was worse though. The wind was intense. At least the sun is shining?
It's supposed to be 50 F on Sunday, so I'll survive until then.
Growing up, I knew a girl named Michael (not an error), which isn't really a gender neutral name. Her middle name is Elizabeth, but she goes by Michael.
My name is Emily. It's just ok... there are a lot of younger girls named Emily since it seemed to become really popular in the 90s/early...
I used to hate my name because I thought it just plain and boring. I like it fine now, but honestly, I rarely ever hear it anymore, so I don't think about it much. Since having kids, I feel a bit like Smeagol here when someone uses my given name:
I've always liked gender neutral names like...
Right now, I'd settle for being an expert in keeping young kids entertained when school is canceled and it's too cold to go outside.
But really, I've always been fascinated by cultures other than my own and would definitely like to be an expert in languages and culture (even if it was...
A long time ago, I met a woman who took in and cared for abandoned cats. She actually contacted me about a chocolate lab someone had dumped on her property because I did lab rescue and the shelter had my info. I wasn't sure what to think as she told me about her "cat house" over the phone. I...
I'm not sure it's a fail, but I did not intend to make it appear as though Piper is a giant among cats, even though she appears that way in this picture.
I can't profess to being a "cat person"... I love my cat. She chose me and I feel privileged that she trusted me when she was in such bad shape and getting very close to death. She's very refined and I rarely see her acting anything other refined (when I do catch her playing and being silly, she...
My favorites are cowboy cookies. I first made them back in the early 2000s and they remain my very favorite.

Piper was a stray, so I have no idea what her previous name was (even though I know she had a previous owner). She knows it, but more often than not, I refer to her as "Kicky cat" because my 4 year old can't say kitty and it stuck.
My previous pets were all dogs and I did rename 2 of them...
Ha! My 4 year old is terrified of dolls, stuffed animals, and anthropomorphic toys. So, basically anything inanimate with a face. However, she has had this fear for basically her whole life. Her teachers can't use puppets or stuffed toys because she'll run out the room screaming.
The dog thing...
