    3rd Cat Woes

We have 3 cats and a baby. We never intended to have 3 cats, but it happened. When cat #2 got out and was missing for quite some time we adopted a kitten, then #2 returned the next morning. Fast forward to now. Cat #1, Billy, is a well behaved, laid back 7 year old. He chews plastic if we...

    New Aggression Between Old Friends

I have 3 cats: -Billy, neutered male, 7 -Camo, spayed female, 2 -Pebbles, intact kitten, 3 months (will be spayed in November) Billy and Camo used to be close friends. They used to sleep together, groom one another, and share everything quite well. Then back in May we lost Camo. She got out...

    Tail Injury

Thanks, that's what I figure. We think he fell on it. He sees the smaller cats up on the window and thinks he can fit there too. Jumps at the tiny window frame 3.5-4 feet up the wall and doesn't stick. Hasn't learned yet.

    Tail Injury

My almost-7 year old male injured his tail last week. We noticed that he was holding it with a kink (though not consistently kinking it in the same place) and that he wasn't resting his head on it to sleep like usual. There's a swolen bump near the tip if you feel it, and he doesn't want the...

    Kitten already expecting kittens!!!

For males, since it's a quick and relatively simple procedure, 8 weeks is fine. 12 is the earliest I'd do a female as the spay is more involved. As others have said, though, best to do it before first heat. Domestics can have their forts heat as early as 5 months.

Strange Cat Behavior: Masturbation And Spraying ?

If he is purring and kneeding the object(s) he is "masturbating" on, it may not be a sexual behaviour at all. Many cats display former kitten behaviours when they are enjoying something. Kneeding is a kitten behaviour. So is letting the penis hang out while kneeding (nursing) as a very young...

    Kitten already expecting kittens!!!

Camo has long since dried up and cannot start producing milk again due to being spayed after stopping lactation from her own litter. Doesn't stop Pebbles from tying to suckle, and Camo lets her. She just takes the opportunity to give Pebbles a thorough bath.

    Kitten already expecting kittens!!!

Babies will take any opportunity they can get  I'd say normal, and don't worry about it. Sun will wean them both when she feels it's time.

    Kitten already expecting kittens!!!

How sweet! These are the two I mentioned in my post earlier: The tortie playing surrogate momma is Camo and the tabby kitten is Pebbles. Pebbles is not big for nearly 8 weeks; Camo is just that tiny.

Former Barn Cat - Yeowling Escape Artist!

I feel like I can't just let Camo be a roaming cat because the town's humane services shelter adopts cats out with the condition that you keep them indoors, and she's microchipped so they'd charge me for kennel board & collection every time someone reported her and had her picked up. Technically...

Former Barn Cat - Yeowling Escape Artist!

The cage access outside a window/door is called a catio, and I recently suggested to my fiance that we should do something like that with the flower bed under the overhang along the front of our split-level house, since is doesn't have proper sunlight for plants (not that we're huge gardeners...

    Kitten already expecting kittens!!!

I just found this thread, and I wanted to pop in and say you're doing a great job, and your cats are all so cute! My middle cat who's about 2 now was a very young mom as well, and unfortunately neither she nor her kittens recevied any vet care until they ended up at the local humane services...

Former Barn Cat - Yeowling Escape Artist!

I moved from BC to Newfoundland nearly 6 years ago, and on one of my annual visits home about 3 years ago now, I brought my cat Billy back to Newfoundland with me. He used to live with my family's other cats and dogs, and although he's always happy to be with me, he was clearly lonely...

Mixed Age Cats In A Small Town

Thanks for your response! I'm in Canada, in Newfoundland to be more specific. Beautiful island province, wonderful people, everything outside of the capital city is about 2-3 decades behind the times in both the best and worst ways.

Mixed Age Cats In A Small Town

Hi! So I live in a smaller town that, due to being small and in a less-modern part of the country, doesn't have a lot of pet food options. I have 3 cats at the moment: Billy, 6.5 years old, neutered male, 10-11 lbs, lifelong indoor Camo, almost 2 years, spayed female, 5.5 lbs, former outdoor...
