    Cat vomiting/lactulose

...told me it wasn't safe for her to go that long without pooping, and I should get her checked. I took her to her Vet and was prescribed some Lactulose and Gabapentin for her anxiety and stress from moving. I gave her the lactulose dose, 1.5ml (She's 17lb) and she did poop the following...

So, you haven't tried Miralax so far? Maybe this older thread might be of help? Miralax vs. Lactulose-your experiences? | TheCatSite I have not used lactulose, so I have no idea how to compare doses. But, here is another older thread that talks about both of them. Feline Constipation-Miralax...

Eight year old Maine coon with chronic constipation

Not sure where you’re located, but in Canada lactulose is actually sold at every pharmacy for a lot cheaper than at the vet. No prescription needed, and the products are exactly the same except for the packaging. (We had the pharmacist compare it for us)

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

Is Laxatone similar to Lactulose? If it's similar at all, then your issue might be the lack of water. We had a cat who needed Lactulose for her entire life, as she had a butt that wasn't formed correctly and she couldn't poop and she was totally constipated no matter what. She was in such...

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

Lactulose is totally different. Laxatone is a gel whereas Lactulose is a very sticky liquid that my cat - no matter what flavour the compounding pharmacy gave us - would not like. I never had to syringe anything into his mouth. I'm afraid that I will mess up and he'll aspirate it, then...

I did not think it could be the lactulose in particular! Thanks for this.

That could be from the lactulose if she inhaled any, although I know that this is an ongoing problem.

    Senior cat constipation and Miralax

Also used Miralax with no issues for years. When I asked the vet about it she turned her nose up and said lactulose was the way forward, but that's no surprise given that the vet sells lactulose (at about 20x the cost of the stuff at the pharmacy! I got a friend who works for the Blue Cross to...

    Cat prolapse rectum

Agreed, Lactulose is sticky and awful. My cat hates having to take it. I also dislike how it functions too. Lactulose draws water from the cat into the colon, while Miralax/Restoralax bring the water that you mix it with into the colon. Miralax for Cats: Uses, Dosage, & Side Effects - Cats.com...

Cat lost appetite - Complicated situation

Just fyi — beware of lactulose and linkage to hypercalcemia. Maybe it won’t cause elevated calcium levels in your cat, but it did in mine. I’ve unfortunately proven it in controlled settings twice, doing bloodwork pre and post lactulose use. Hypercalcemia causes cats to stop eating. High...

It’s a bit of relief to know it isn’t just her that the lactulose isn’t working with. :/ I asked about trying miralax and the vet seemed confused asking if it was a paste? Saying it would give her diarrhea (To...

    Cat constipation

Lactulose didn't work for my heaven cat either. I gave her miralax and vetasyl. Vetasyl is psyllium husk which is also in the science digestive diet. For some reason my vet didn't recommend vetasyl but I was desperate after I had to take my cat to emergency. She pooped everyday once I put her on...

    Cat prolapse rectum

Since Miralax is hard to come back where you are, and since you haven't mentioned having difficulties giving Lactulose to Toby, I probably wouldn't switch him over to the Miralax. Why mess with what is working. Foul smelling is probably from whatever he is eating. I recently switched up foods...
