defecating outside the box, any ideas?

Thanks so much. Yea, we have wondered what could be the issue like you say your cat had a bad tooth. The issue still has not revealed itself. He's staying hydrated in that we changed from mostly dry food to more wet food so that he gets more moisture. His boxes do not have lids so that isn't an...

defecating outside the box, any ideas?

So glad Ruby is doing better! Not sure if this is progress but about an hour ago Frankie had that "look" and he was about to hop onto the couch and I grabbed him, placed him in his box where he left a nice load. hopefully we're almost done with this.

defecating outside the box, any ideas?

I thought I'd give an update and also to see how Ruby is doing. Pretty much the same old, same old. we're still cleaning up after Frankie and if we're fast enough we can hold him in his box while he does his duty. However, after many conversations with the vet I am pretty sure it was the food...

defecating outside the box, any ideas?

ah yes, we do have the same issue indeed. Frankie arrived 3 years ago very stressed and we knew at the get go that we would eventually have more episodes in the future. well, here we are. I think you're onto something with the food. guess what? we had the SAME ISSUE!! so the stuff that Frankie...

defecating outside the box, any ideas?

ah.....and we thought we were done with this episode. I guess not. Darling boy wouldn't eat his supper. He's now taking a dislike to one type of wet food that we bought a case of.....and on we go. Then, since he wasn't going to eat it anyway, I added water to it like the vet suggested since she...

defecating outside the box, any ideas?

Oh, I should have mentioned too that Frankie is very particular about his boxes. He usually does #2 in the upstairs box but hubby said that he had just peed in it and I guess he couldn't get it cleaned fast enough for him to poop in there?? yea, maybe it's a simple as that because everything...

defecating outside the box, any ideas?

Thanks to you both. He had one #2 in the box the day after confinement(Wednesday) so we thought he was back to normal. We have kept up the Miralax 1/8 tsp. twice a day. I just don't understand why after going in the box two days ago he's back to doing it outside the box. I'll check out the...

defecating outside the box, any ideas?

My darling boy Frankie is having issues again. We adopted him when he was 3.5 years old nearly 3 years ago. We had issues with him going outside the box, both #1 and #2, and we had confined him for a couple of weeks until he went in the box(es) in his small room (basement bathroom). All has been...

    here we go again?

Frankie didn't have a fever and wasn't dehydrated they say because he ate some wet food. since he's not eating dry food it's okay to feed him wet food for a bit. He's gobbled down three helpings of wet food today and for the first time in a couple of days he drank water. that was at dinner at 9...

    here we go again?

I have had outdoor cats for decades so I know the risks. I guess thanks for the reminder. Frankie is not eating or drinking.

    here we go again?

Are rats the same as mice? It was a small mouse, not a rat. I'm going to call the vet this morning to see what they say. Cats are born hunters and we prefer to let them live their lives as intended. You can choose to keep your cat(s) inside. There is no "should" but you are entitled to your...

    here we go again?

Greetings. It's been a while since I posted. We adopted Frankie at 3.5 years old(he's 5 now) and we had to confine him because he was highly stressed and was going outside the box. That was October/November 2018. He has occasional "accidents" when his box is not clean enough. Well, darling...

    And After Confinement?

I have another Frankie update :) He is still doing the lifting his rear end after he starts peeing (not every time he pees) and he looks like he's straining to go. but since this doesn't happen every time I think I will wait the month and then talk to the vet. she said check back in after a...

    And After Confinement?

Thank you!! but of course yesterday he did the lifting his bottom while peeing which makes it look like he is spraying? He did that twice yesterday. Well guess what? We had our garage door opener installed yesterday and I guess he freaked out a little bit because of that. I got home just as he...

    And After Confinement?

No accidents since last Friday, thank goodness.........but I thought I would post a new photo of my very relaxed Frankie boy:

    And After Confinement?

I have not seen him in action when the urine has landed on the floor. I have seen him lift his back end in the middle of peeing and that lands on the edge of the box. Hubby says it's gotten on the wall before, but only in the boxes in his room in the basement. But these "lifting his back end"...

    And After Confinement?

and again this morning? what the heck?? and this one was worse than last night's as the pee got underneath the box so I had to clean the box too and replace the litter. I think we'll start half a pill tonight then.

    And After Confinement?

He does seem content! Another, hopefully small, setback. I noticed some liquid next to the box he uses the most which is currently in our kitchen. Sure enough, urine :( He missed the box again. When I called the vet to check in after a month on Amitriptyline she asked if he'd had any...

    And After Confinement?

Hello!! Merry Post Christmas to you! I didn't take many photos of Frankie. He's not like any other cat that we've had. Well, we already knew that but we've always had our cats around when opening gifts but not Frankie. I am not sure where he was. So I only have one where you can sort of see some...
