Hi Barb,
Our Ire has been at stage 3 since she was diagnosed. She was in and out of the ER for a bit, and it was gut-wrenching. On the one hand, the vets explained very clearly that this it is terminal and not reversible, and I couldn't tell whether I wanted to throw up or cry. But on the other...
Thanks for responding ProMeower. I can relate to the shock of hearing that your Ire was in Stage 3 kidney failure. From Feb. to last week (only 8 weeks) Jengo's Bun went from 66 to 70.8 and Creatinine from 3.5 to 3.7 but his Phosphorus jumped from norm of 4.6 to 8.1 so that must have pushed...
Thanks so much for your posts, furballsmom and feebysowner. I was hoping there may have been some sort of advance I am not aware of, but it sounds about the same as a decade ago.
I am familiar with Tanya’s site, it was very helpful when I had no clue about crf. Previous crf kitty was crazy for...
Hi. Not sure that her creatinine level would explain the listlessness, but all cats are different. What is her phosphorus level?
A noted above, the lower protein concept is a bit outdated and is generally thought to be something one doesn't do until the late stage of CKD. Lower phosphorus...
Quick overview: Toby is 13 and was diagnosed beginning of this year, have not been told his stage or shown his bloodwork. Started SubQ fluids which has recently become painful for him and also prescribed metoclopramide, hasn’t been prescribed anything else this far.
Beginning of last week he...
Some of the information you provided above cannot be translated, but other statements appear to indicate that the foods contain 'the right vitamins'. I have no way of knowing whether or not it would be 'complete' based on US standards, but it would seem it is for your area.
You indicated you...
Yeah, when I take my 2nd kitty for his yearly check up I'm going to donate the bag of hydrolyzed food to the vet so they can send to a shelter.
21 years is impressive! I'm hoping my boy will get to at least 10-11 years :(
I'm trying to decide if to give the Chlorambucil on the weekend when...
The only supplement I give now is the Krill oil capsules. One of the vets filled him up with probiotics, phosphorous binders, iron tonic all to no avail and some of which made him worse. He won't even touch the tuna now so that's another problem out of the way.
Lucy's been on Hills k/d food since the end of July. Back then her creatinine was 3.8, and her BUN was 53.
She was eating the food well, though not a ton of it, and the vomiting had stopped other than a couple of instances.
I took her in again last week for another blood draw, to recheck...
Hello - Would like some input from the CRF group. Took my Jengo in for blood-work on April 12th... only 8 weeks from previous blood-work because he was getting weaker. Unfortunately 3 test results were high: Bun = 70.8 Creatinine = 3.7 and Phosphorus = 8.1 putting him in Stage 3 now...
From my experience, CRF (or CKD) can not be controlled with a specific diet and food only.
It does need more actions from the owner, that are fluids given daily or every second day, medicines, supplements.
Hi. Aside from the creatinine, her numbers don't look alarming. I do know dehydration can also affect creatinine, so something to consider. Have you read this section of Tanya's web site - certain meds like Semintra can elevate creatinine too. Tanya's Comprehensive Guide to Feline Chronic Kidney...
I tried hydrolyzed food for Quinn I think or Merlin I have forgotten… but whoever it is was it gave them very bad diarrhea and I returned it… it was from a website and it was very expensive. So I would guess it’s probably the food. I would stop that and try to switch him slowly to a home-cooked...
Ok thanks. This is a puncture bite, it has the two puncture wounds so it is a deep biteUnfortunately there is a chance of transmission if one of them bit him. I think any puncture bite with transmission of saliva can transmit it too from what I have read. I don’t think there was any screeching...
She is on renal food now (for 2 weeks). The Hills is the renal as is the Royal Canin. She turned up her nose to dry and is exclusively canned now - so I'm rotating between Royal Canin and Hills canned. I'm actually glad she's off the dry - Chewy refunded me and I dropped it off at a cat rescue...
yes my Wizard was fiv plus and had first ibd, then crf and then lymphoma. He had anemia too. But he lived a long time and was healthier than my others for quite a while. He always had a touchy tum though. It was not easy, fluids, meds etc. He was probably 21 when he left me, I miss him so much...
Sorry to jump in on this, but I did use Azodyl for my cat for a time. It wasn't super easy for me to use it on him though because at the time, I was working in an office and not from home like I am now. So, I had to give it to him first thing in the morning, but he wanted to eat NOW. And then...
He's already a month post i131 treatment. Which uncovered his kidney deficiency. His phosphorus level was normal. His bun and creatinine were elevated, but she was mainly concerned about his urine specific gravity and his symptoms. He's been drinking a LOT of water and he's sleeping a lot more...
Did the vet say Jack may already have CRF and you will know for sure after the I-131 treatment? Somehow HT hides CRF in the blood - not to mention both diseases have similar symptoms. It is why the urine specific gravity (USG) matters: without that, vets will not know whether a hyperthyroid cat...
Hahaha on the "I hate to do this to you" comment! No - I haven't - but I will. I asked about the Azodyl because I remembered that back when Sammy had CRF (as it was referred to back then vs CKD now), that I also joined a FB group - which I "think" was affiliated with Tanya, or may have been...
