Fostering a momma cat and her 5 kittens for the first time!

It could be the Profender. It doesn’t take much of something toxic like that to upset his insides. It should get out of his system soon.

    Cat aggressive after pawing me

Cats can acquire tapeworms by ingesting fleas when grooming, so that's a possibility. I use a product called Profender to deal with worms. You would need a prescription from your vet for Profender. It's a topical treatment so Ralph can't spit it out. You apply it to the back of his neck...

Fostering a momma cat and her 5 kittens for the first time!

...for a while. Monitor and call vet asap if it gets worse. I was getting a bit worried, reading about roundworm intestinal blockage, cat in Profender safety study dying after a few days etc. But while I was talking to the vet, he was casually eating and playing energetically. So I probably...

    Is Profender dewormer safe?

My vet just prescribed Profender for my kitten who has diarrhea. She’s running other tests but prescribed this as a precaution in case of tapeworm (fecal was negative but often is hard to detect). Everything I read online about this medication is frightening! I’m thinking of holding off giving...

    Tapeworms

...cat who hunts and picks up fleas/ticks, and as a result has had tapeworms several times (I saw the living worms drop off of him). Profender always cleared them up. However, he has never left blood in the litter box. I suspect that the bleeding you are seeing is caused by something else...

    Tapeworms

His poop is actually soft and he goes 2x a day. I don’t think he’s constipated. He doesn’t have diarrhea either. I’m just going to have to take him to the vet.

    GI Bleeding

...as if Binx is eating enough to make it until tomorrow morning. Your vet was kind enough to give you something which would possibly help a number of conditions; Profender and Revolution should kill roundworms. Do you have any ideas about or did you observe anything different over the last few...

    Is Profender dewormer safe?

This will give you an overview of Profender comments here on TCS. I have never used it because in the case of tapeworms I have always had my vet give an injection of Droncit. Certainly discuss this with your vet and ask for alternatives if you are not comfortable with it. Search Results for...

    Deworms cat with fluid

Yes, you must get something that takes care of tapeworms too, those are what a cat gets when eating rodents. I use Profender. A little pricey, but it takes care of all worms and you only have one application. I use it once a year on any cats that go outside. Put it high up just below their ears...

    Cat aggressive after pawing me

...good. Regarding deworming, I didn't realize that you were in the UK (I hope I'm reading the currency symbol right). It's possible that Profender doesn't require a prescription there like it does in the USA, though it probably wouldn't hurt to get Ralph a check up regardless (given the...

    Capstar for Tapeworm

...brought in for neutering/spaying as a preventative. I had asked if they had seen fleas, and that is when they told me it is routine. I use Profender topical on my ferals, you need it once and it takes care of all worms including tapeworm. It is the fleas that cause tapeworms, but Capstar will...

    GI Bleeding

The few days leading up to his illness? He was sticking his tongue out, drooling a little, and not eating all of his food. I thought he was having symptoms of stomatitis or dental issues. (I was already planning on taking him to the vet next Friday to have that checked out.) The vet did notice...

...a wet cotton pad and it had a spec of red in it. The only thing I can think of that might cause this, is on Wednesday he licked a bit of Profender (topical dewormer), salivated a bit, drank a bit of water, and then seemed fine. I'm keeping an eye on him, I'll take him to the vet on Monday...

    What's on your Mind Thread - 2022

I ordered some Profender topical dewormer for Demi & Maggie. Do I have to deworm them twice, 2 weeks apart like with Drontal? The website said once every 3 months, but I know a lot of people do 2 doses to kill the eggs that hatch. @Willowy --I know you could probably answer this, but you're...

    Capstar for Tapeworm

Ugh ok I wish they would of given him something else and I would of had this knowledge bc I would of pushed for it. Not sure why they thought Capstar was enough. I'll have to get something. I can't handle him at all so it needs to go in food now.

There are spot-ons for worms. Profender is for hookworms, roundworms, and tapeworms. I don't know if any brands have combined that with a flea med for cats yet though. Edit: ok, Bravecto for cats is for fleas, hookworms, and roundworms, but not tapeworms. Revolution, Advantage Multi too.

Nursing mother cat suddenly lethargic, won’t stay with her kittens for more than 10 minutes

It sounds like she may be allergic to the Profender, or she may have mastitis and need antibiotics. Vet needs to give her sub-q fluids to rehydrate her. She may also need anti-nausea meds and an anti-inflammatory. Do apply warm compresses to her mammary glands and coconut oil to lubricate...
