IBD - Cat acts like he is starving but refuses food when offered

...but did they check sodium level at any point? With him trying to snack on salty, carb-rich foods that makes me concerned about Addison's disease, which is an autoimmune disorder of the adrenal glands. In humans, some of the first signs of Addison's are rapid weight loss, salt/sugar/carb...

    Addison's Disease

My 16yo senior kitty was diagnosed with Addison's disease recently. My vet told me that she is only the second kitty she's had with Addison's in her 30+ year career. I didn't realize how rare it is in cats until I started looking online for more information and didn't find much. Looking...

cat diagnosed with atypical Addison's disease

Hello friends, my cat has been diagnosed with atypical Addison's disease following an ACTH test. His potassium and sodium levels are within normal range (based on latest blood test, as well as multiple blood tests taken over the course of the past two years prior to the Addison's diagnosis)...

Diarrhea, Constipation, Refusing food and water

Results are in, she "failed" her ACTH stimulation test by a long shot so it is confirmed she has Addison's disease. We are starting two meds today and will check in with vet in a couple of days if no improvement. For now I am very relieved that we have answers. :)

maintenance dose for cat with atypical Addison's disease

Thank you very much for your response and the article which I've found very helpful. I will discuss with our vet when she's due to see my cat again next week. We've already been to several other veterinary practices but none of their vets have had any experience with Addison's. I appreciate how...

...and extremely high potassium. We are having her admitted for the day tomorrow so they can run tests to determine whether she has addison's disease. My vet has been in practice for 30 years and said she's only seen one other cat in that time period that had addison's disease. I'm hopeful...

maintenance dose for cat with atypical Addison's disease

I have a 3.5 year old atypical Addisonian male cat currently weighing about 4.3 kg. He's on a daily dose of 4.8 mg Prednisolone, and two 0.1 mg Florinef pills a day. Although he did well in the initial period of the current dosing protocol, he's not been top notch of late (growing weaker...

Cat won't eat - despite Cerenia and mirtazapine?

...well @cat nap ! I haven't had a CKD cat, but I do remember reading some years ago about usage of buprenorphine in cats with CKD, Addison's Disease or underactive thyroids: it's all about the metabolism, and "normal" dosages of buprenorphine in cats with metabolic diseases can lead to an...

Drug for Hyper- or Hypo- thyroid?

...in humans with Graves Disease, which is a hyperthyroid condition, being used to send them into hypothyroidism as a preferable condition. It is sort of like my first Cushings dog was intentionally given meds to bring on Addison's Disease. That is about as much as I have ever understood about it.

Part of the difficulty we have been facing (in addition to having to treat Addison's disease) is that my cat has had ringworm for almost two years now. We almost lost him when a previous vet had him on a daily dose of 10mg Prednisolone for...

cat diagnosed with atypical Addison's disease

This is not a hugely common condition in cats. I have had two dogs, one still living, with Cushing's disease which is the opposite of Addison's. In the old day before better canine meds were available for Cushing's, the course of treatment was to medically send the dog into Addison's and the...

    Hyperthyroidism in Feeby - Questions

...typical H-T and CKD symptoms that it is assumed those are her causes. The only other thing I have to go on is that it would seem Addison's disease results in shrunken/atrophied adrenal glands, and it is common for sodium and potassium levels to be abnormal, as well as an abnormally low heart...

Suggested Lymphoma 11 yr old male

The Ultrasound Dr, Practice Owner, nor my Vet have seen in a cat. He doesn't have that Cushing's appearance, but here we are. I'm starting to wonder if this could be related to the Toxic Mold apt we lived in for a few years. It wrecked havoc on my son and I, why not my pets? Roo is doing much...

Cat won't eat - despite Cerenia and mirtazapine?

Thanks for this added information, @PushPurrCatPaws .:) That totally makes sense to me, now. (at the time, I had no idea) It's kind of like what you said before, though, in your post: which I totally agree with. We need the meds to help heal our cats. But then we need the vets to Balance out...

    The Mystery That Is Fender

. @fender - Primary adrenal insufficiency (i.e Addison's disease) would almost certainly show up in testing cortisol levels, and Type 2 Polyglandular Autoimmune Syndrome (i.e. Schmidt Syndrome) would usually be detectable with simple Blood Sugar analysis. You haven't said whether or not your...
