...levels, but did they check sodium level at any point? With him trying to snack on salty, carb-rich foods that makes me concerned about Addison's disease, which is an autoimmune disorder of the adrenal glands. In humans, some of the first signs of Addison's are rapid weight loss...
I appreciate it! We actually originally thought it was Addison's after we got past the more common ailments but they ruled it out. It really seemed like it. We were between that and FIP. Man that seems like a lifetime ago haha. I'd almost forgotten about it. Both came back "no" in the Addison's...
My 16yo senior kitty was diagnosed with Addison's disease recently. My vet told me that she is only the second kitty she's had with Addison's in her 30+ year career. I didn't realize how rare it is in cats until I started looking online for more information and didn't find much.
Looking...
...told them when I brought her in) but low blood pressure and low temps.
They are currently keeping her over night and are testing her for Addison's as well as a few different heart enzymes. I am trying to not obsess crazily over this as I did with my soul cat last year, but it is really...
...that was where we got the idea to just give him food when we wants and make sure he didn't sit anywhere cold.
I don't know anything about Addison's, so let me know how that turns out.
LOL - his Sister (also in the picture on his thread, she is mostly white) Kensai. She is like that - like...
Hello friends, my cat has been diagnosed with atypical Addison's disease following an ACTH test. His potassium and sodium levels are within normal range (based on latest blood test, as well as multiple blood tests taken over the course of the past two years prior to the Addison's diagnosis)...
Results are in, she "failed" her ACTH stimulation test by a long shot so it is confirmed she has Addison's disease. We are starting two meds today and will check in with vet in a couple of days if no improvement.
For now I am very relieved that we have answers. :)
...At a minimum call your vet and let them know how she is behaving.
Here is a link to previous posts from other members who have dealt with Addison's. Hopefully, there will be some helpful information in them, and I see there are a couple of members still active on this site, so I hope they...
...to see my cat again next week. We've already been to several other veterinary practices but none of their vets have had any experience with Addison's. I appreciate how our current vet has been handling the case, but she's only handled one other Addison's case, that of a dog. And I believe she...
...part of their effectiveness if crushed.
Don't know what issue your cat has, from what I read Florinef can be used to counter the effects of Addison's, which is the opposite of what my cat had.
She would take Spironolactone, but the dosage was a whole tiny pill that she would get with no...
Thank you for posting an update. Your vet did the right thing to test for Addison's; other might not have as it is so rare in cats. My current dog has been treated for Cushings for 7 years, also with an excellent vet, so this can be managed. Definitely stay in touch with the vet. Ask if there...
...sodium and extremely high potassium.
We are having her admitted for the day tomorrow so they can run tests to determine whether she has addison's disease. My vet has been in practice for 30 years and said she's only seen one other cat in that time period that had addison's disease. I'm...
I'm not talking about Cushing's or Addison's, I'm talking about hyperaldosteronism, which is what my Lola had.
She had an enlarged adrenal gland, low potassium level, extreme weakness (because of the low potassium), BP surges (that led to blindness), mild dehydration.
A simple aldosterone...
...threw up for hours after she first ate it, then didn't want to eat for almost two days after that. She had the beginning stages of HL and Addison's crisis since she could not take her daily medication.
I would suggest to make his food into a liquidy slurry. For Sadie I would take her 3oz can...
I have a 3.5 year old atypical Addisonian male cat currently weighing about 4.3 kg. He's on a daily dose of 4.8 mg Prednisolone, and two 0.1 mg Florinef pills a day. Although he did well in the initial period of the current dosing protocol, he's not been top notch of late (growing weaker...
This is not a hugely common condition in cats. I have had two dogs, one still living, with Cushing's disease which is the opposite of Addison's. In the old day before better canine meds were available for Cushing's, the course of treatment was to medically send the dog into Addison's and the...
...this as well @cat nap !
I haven't had a CKD cat, but I do remember reading some years ago about usage of buprenorphine in cats with CKD, Addison's Disease or underactive thyroids: it's all about the metabolism, and "normal" dosages of buprenorphine in cats with metabolic diseases can lead to...
...consultation that your vet could do with any major teaching hospital like UC Davis, Colorado State, Cornell, Florida State. Cushings and Addison's are all a matter of numbers for the most part and the numbers controls the dosing. I don't see why this could not be done without you having to...

These threads contain TCS information from members about this condition and might be helpful. I don't have anything of help to add from the previous posts, but do agree with your concern that your cat seems to be moving into Cushings. Lethargy and...
...I will definitely discuss with her at our next appointment. Part of the difficulty we have been facing (in addition to having to treat Addison's disease) is that my cat has had ringworm for almost two years now. We almost lost him when a previous vet had him on a daily dose of 10mg...
