Safety of Metronidazole topical for humans, ingested by cats

Just as an update and to anyone who happens across this question for help in the future: Doc said at most it would cause some nausea and vomiting and that the best way to treat that would be to end the exposure and give some probiotics, as the meds (at most) could kill off good gut bacteria.

Safety of Metronidazole topical for humans, ingested by cats

Thanks. That sheet says it contains 10mgs of the actual metronidazole per the whole 1g bottle (so not even per application.) I looked up the pill form and that contains 375mgs. So that's something. Much lower dose. Figured I would see if it is prescribed for cats at all, and it is: "The dosage...

Safety of Metronidazole topical for humans, ingested by cats

So I've been on Metrogel for over a year now for Rosacea. I realized that I wasn't actually washing my hands after applying it, and then I would touch my cats sometime later. Once I realized I could be distributing the antibiotic onto their fur which they then lick, I have now been making sure...

    Thoughts on these guys' play?

Hah! Well they played together for about an hour today. No growling or hissing either. Was like the play I am used to seeing from them. Sooo I dunno, cats are weird. :dunno:

    Thoughts on these guys' play?

Thanks for the extra reassurance- it’s helpful and appreciated. it makes sense that they would make noise like children do. It was just new so I thought he was being serious. But rewatching the video, I see him go in for a head grab which he prob wouldn’t do if he didn’t enjoy the play. He...

    Thoughts on these guys' play?

Alright. Thank you. This two cat mom life is still teaching me new things all the time. This is the first pair of cats I've owned (I had two cats solo prior to this) and so it has all been new to me. Even with having them since kittens for nearly 6 years, I guess you still can learn new things!

    Thoughts on these guys' play?

Good to know on the neck biting thing. My concern at this point is if my interfering was actually what caused this problem, then perhaps I need to go back to the basics similar to introducing a new kitten into the household - you provide treats during the meet and greet and praise them for...

    Thoughts on these guys' play?

That's good to know that you all think it's normal play. I guess I am just not used to him hissing and growling. He only started this recently. I am wondering if this didn't have to do with my intervening with their play previously. Cobalt would get onto Rigby's back and bite his neck. Hard...

    Thoughts on these guys' play?

Few weeks ago I posted a thread about how my one cat hisses, yelps, and growls when his brother tries to play with him. I suspect it is related to his weight and we have since gotten a SureFeeder for Cobalt (grey tabby) so Rigby (orange tabby) losses some weight and is more pleasant to be...

    Happy growls?

I kind of want to hear this "happy growl" lol

Cat doesn't want to play with his brother anymore

Thank you to everyone who replied. I picked up Rigby today - he's like lead. Cobalt is like a feather. Top of the list of culprits in this equation is Ribgy's weight. I bought an RFID tag feeder, the Sure Feeder. Programmed it to Cobalt now so Rigs can't get to his food and will hopefully lose...

Cat doesn't want to play with his brother anymore

I left them be earlier today when Cobalt yelped and then growled at him. His growls are always in response to being tackled. I stayed silent and Rigby backed off after 3 attempts. So going to continue trying that. Nooo that's way different than what is happening with them! I'll try to take...

Cat doesn't want to play with his brother anymore

Do you think I should leave them be even if he yelps and hisses? Thanks to everyone who replied! Will take the age thing into consideration. It's actually the heavier, slightly older (by 4.5 mos) cat that is more wanting to play oddly enough. Also, it's not that Cobalt doesn't want to play...

Cat doesn't want to play with his brother anymore

I'm not sure what happened, but my grey/black tabby Cobalt doesn't want to play with his orange cream brother Rigby anymore. They are 5 & 6 yrs old respectively and this issue started about a two or three months ago. Whenever Rigby tries to play with him he "growls" (yelps), pushes him away...

Is the lining in Fancy Feast cans safe?

So this was their first response: Purina: Bisphenol A (BPA) is a basic component of cans. It is often used in cans containing food or beverages, and helps cans to be safer and stronger by preventing corrosion and maintaining quality and flavor. BPA may be used on the interior and exterior of...

    What noise is this?

Today started in with them being accompanied by full sneezes. So I think either he is getting a cold or has allergies.

Sudden weird sneezes, plus some recent small issues

It could have been a feather. He could also be working on a hairball. My last cat would have a cough episode and a day or two later produce a hairball. So hers was definitely related to hair. If it's more frequent and doesn't come with a hairball within a few days, apparently it can be a sign of...

    What noise is this?

Yeah, I think I will keep my eye on it this next week and if it persists, take him to the vet. I'm wondering if it might be allergies? The entire outside is blanketed in a green pollen. But I thought that cat allergies tend to come more as skin issues. And he doesn't produce any mucus or have...

    What noise is this?

My cat has been doing these little almost micro sneezes for the past several days. If it's not a sneeze, then the closest thing I could find on youtube was a hiccup. He has been doing this all day long for several days, with no other behavioral or health changes. He has made this sound...

Sudden weird sneezes, plus some recent small issues

Looks like a cough. I think it’s from hair stuck in the throat. All 3 of my cats have done it. Is it deep throaty sounding like this: As for the soft stools, did that start after you gave him the Revolution? Sounds like diarrhea is a side effect of that medication according to the VCA...
