...pets. And as for breeding cats any decent breeder will do necessary heath testing for any disease or condition that is prevalent in the breed; i,e. hipdysplasia, heart problems, hearing tests (white cats only) etc. Personally I wouldn't purchase from any breeder who does not provide this care.
Did the vet suggest anything for pain? If she is in pain it would affect her general mood, quick to defensiveness in play and survival situations lke eating.
Hmm, I'll consider this. Unfortunately with her hipdysplasia she is not very vertical. She can jump up about 2/3 as high as she should be able to.. which is nice for keeping her off counters but also means she has less places to go. Maybe somewhere only she can fit .. we'll see.
It’s worth a short trial, I think, to find out whether more or different food resolves the issue. I don’t think any weight gain would be excessive in a week or two and if it does help her food issues you can have a talk with your vet about the situation and weight.
Hmm, the vet said her weight is good though. On top of that she has bilateral hipdysplasia so ensuring she doesn't get overweight is more critical (less stress on her hips). I can try simply feeding her a bit more during her morning/night meals but I feel like I gotta be careful with her portions.
...I wanted to be sure anyway, so I asked for an x-ray to be done, and got it scheduled for the day after... turns out he not only has hipdysplasia, it's bad enough on one side that he needs immediate surgery - he has a luxation of the left femoral head. The vet team was shocked - you'd never...
This is kind of similar to what we do. Elvis gets on his cat blanket on my lap or on the seat next to me. If I need to move him, I pick him up from underneath his blanket. If I come back, and he wants to return to the warmth, I just lift him from beneath his blanket. :redheartpump: :petcat...
...Miss Betty that I'm doing sometimes daily, sometimes more than once a day:
I've talked about how Betty moves like an old girl. She has hipdysplasia and arthritis and we don't really know how old she is. She loves to sit in my lap when I sit in the front room rocking chair. She'll lay there...
...to touch her, Good Lord!). She was a sweetheart if you were gentle and understanding and loved pets on the head, but she had severe hipdysplasia which made her react badly if people touched her sore places without warning. Most people were understanding, but a few, not so much. I was...
...is their version of Cosequin with a few extras. Maybe I’ll see more play sessions out of her.
So the doc said last year that she has hipdysplasia. She doesn’t think an FHO surgery is necessary. But she does want me to watch her weight. I didn’t mention it earlier because she’s had higher...
...Topaz has ever jumped from the floor up to a kitchen counter.
His lack of interest in doing this was my main clue that he could have hipdysplasia. At first, I thought he was just too young and unsure of how high he could reach... but, back in November 2022, I had to catsit for a friend that...
...back is silvery gray grizzled with narrow dark stripes on chest and legs, and a long striped tail. Last year he had to have surgery for hipdysplasia. He is very active, likes to jump up on cupboards, fridge and cat trees. He’s friendly with all people, even strangers, and our other 2...
...genes. Question is these two tests- when I called the veterinary cardiologist for the HCM screening (blood test negative), and Xray for the hipdysplasia screening, they want the animal to be two years old. But the breeder of each recommends breeding the first heat after one year. What is...
...see the difference weight makes with her when she unintentionally lost half a pound this past month. She has arthritis and possibly hipdysplasia. She moves a lot easier when she's carrying less weight. All her lab work looks great. So I'm not terribly concerned there. She just moves like a...
...rescue ferals from a colony at that time that all had Felv so I had my hands full and left the details to be handled by the attending. HipDysplasia was all that was related back to me. I was told that the other hip should be watched. :dunno: At a later check I was told that there seemed to...
Amazing story and YOU ARE AMAZING! :wow::heartshape:
Thank you so much for all that you do and for your dedication to these babies. :lovecat4::catlove:
They’ve given her gabapentin and buponorphine. She was already taking metacam. She’s got hipdysplasia so they clearly think it’s that. But they can’t just expect her to be in pain for two weeks. She’s not sleeping
