Holistic Alternatives To Anesthesia?

Next week on Friday my cat is scheduled to get hopefully only one tooth pulled by our holistic vet. Their method is to have the cat breathe it in the air while wearing a mask or something (I don't remember or understood exactly). They don't do a typical method. The vet mentioned her getting an EKG before I think. Is there any holistic alternatives to anesthesia that you know of?

As long as bloodwork is done before hand, anesthesia is so safe anymore. The amount of time they are under and then reversed is so minimal. I would worry if she isn't under full anesthesia will they be able to do any dental xrays and really look under the gums for infections or lesions? You want to make sure all this is done in one go so she doesn't have to have another dental done in 6 months.

I honestly thing a cat slowly breathing in a drug and taking a longer time to go under would be more stressful for them with not knowing what is happening, than a quick shot to put them under. I would also make sure you understand exactly what they are having your cat breathe in to get her sedated before agreeing to let it happen. And please let us know what they say. I am very curious.

I can't imagine any kind of "holistic" alternative to anesthetic. :headscratch:

Isofluorane and sevofluorane are very safe inhalant anesthetics. The cat will be alert very soon after the gas is turned off. Some cats will fight being "masked down" and will need some injected Tramadol to calm down enough to take the mask. And that might take longer to leave their system. But, yes, much safer than the old ketamines. If the vet says she's healthy enough for anesthetic, she should be fine.

How old is she?

Thank you for the replies. I will keep you updated.

She's 15.

We got an e-mail about her blood results. If anyone wants to see the e-mail or parts of it you can PM me as I don't want to post the whole thing in public.
