What product do you recommend for treating the house? I’m looking at my poor cats like you simply can’t deal with daily soap baths...
Something like Zoecon Precor 2000 Plus or Vet-Kem Siphotrol Plus work very well. They cost around $20 for a can that will treat about 2000 sq. feet. But you probably won't be able to find them locally. If you have one of those DIY pest control places near you, they may have them or something similar. Otherwise, you can get them online. If you decide to go this route, just make sure you closely follow the label directions and keep pets out of sprayed areas until they are completely dry.

I see members on here suggesting 'flea collars', which I was told were toxic to cats. i don't remember who told me that, probably the guy trying to sell me Advantage.

Please don't use flea collars on cats.

Over thirty years past a stray mom cat and her 5 or 6 week old kitten visited my patio. I put out kibble and water for her. I didn't take her in, because I had several indoor only cats. But she and kitten stayed on my patio because of the food and it was fenced in, so no dogs. I mentioned the two cats to a friend at work. He said he might want the kitten, but needed to talk to his wife. They took the kitten, but not mom cat.

The next morning, I was petting the mom cat and noticed someone had put a flea collar on her. There was a ring of raw flesh, exposed muscle in places, all around her neck, under the collar. I removed the collar and decided to take her to a vet the next morning, but she had left my patio. Never saw herr again.
