I had to bury 2 of my cats. The first one 2 months ago and the last one 3 weeks ago. Something has been digging at their graves. I buried them in my lawn, between my garden and my house. Something started digging at their graves about 4 nights ago. I don't know what it is, but I'm petrified of waking up one morning and finding the entire graves dug up. If i put chicken wire on top of their graves and fasten it down will that work? The grass would be able to regrow with the wire on top and i could remove it once its grown back in. I've never had this problem before and have unfortunately had to bury quite a few pets.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I think chicken wire would help but I'd also put a large garden stone on top of it. You can get them at the big box home improvement stores.

Could be a fox or skunk. They have powerful noses and are furious diggers.

Spread powdered Lime over the grave. You can buy this at garden supply stores. Lime was used in "olden days" to mask scent of fresh burials. Farmers use it as well to cover graves of animals.

Powdered Lime masks odors. It doesn't have a bad smell to humans but does to animals. It also helps things break down. I live in the country and bury cats in backyard. I can tell you that powdered Lime works.

I'm sorry for your loss. Perhaps a small picket fence style barrier would work, such as the ones that some human gravestones sometimes have?
