The one who gets to go to the Heaviside Layer is Grizabella the Glamour Cat, who is very old and feeble. So I assume she dies of natural causes (and, presumably, somewhere a baby Glamour Cat is born). But in the play she just floats into the sky so I guess I don't really know what they intended, haha.So do they actually kill/sacrifice someone?
She's Old Deuteronomy. Hmm, not sure how I feel about that. . .Old Deuteronomy is supposed to be an accomplished old tomcat (whose numerous progeny prosper and thrive). I thought she was Grizabella when I watched the trailer.I would like to see it just because Judy Dench is in the movie. I love her and have never seen her on the big screen.
I have never actually seen the movie. I have just seen bits and pieces of it on PBS at different times. I found it depressing and I don't know if I can watch the whole movie. She's Old Deuteronomy. And Idris Elba isn't the Rum Tum Tugger. I got almost everyone mixed up in the trailer. He's Macavity. Tugger is played by Jason Derulo.

They did cast someone fairly androgynous as Mr Mistoffelees, which is good. Yes, I've seen it so many times that I have very definite opinions about who should play what, lol. My brother and I once argued for days over whether Mr Mistoffelees is male or female, and that's probably what TS Eliot meant to do.

It seems a bit strange to get an "expert opinion" of a movie trailer..

Mmmm, not particularly. It's largely an excuse for people to dress up as cats and dance and recite T.S. Eliot's poems (except for "Memory", which was written for the play). The songs are (mostly) word-for-word from the poems (Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, if you want to read them). The "plot" is barely noticeable; in fact some people say there is no plot. Maybe "Memory" is a little depressing but the rest is all in good fun. Just singing and dancing and dressing up like a cat.I have never actually seen the movie.
