How much discharge? Can you post a picture? I agree you need to see a vet.

Are all the kittens nursing well?

This is the discharge, will be taking her to the vet but it won't be till this coming week when I get paid and yes they are nursing very well. Sad to say though two of her kittens passed away when I was at work she slept on them accidentally but the other 2 are perfectly healthy.

Oh my! I’m sorry that two kittens apparently suffocated. Good that two others are doing well.

That discharge does not look good. I think your gal needs antibiotics. Can you go ahead and reserve the appointment for payday? You’ll want to show the vet this picture.

Mom should be spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks old. She may continue to nurse after her spay, and it is best for kittens to stay with mom for 12-16 weeks. Kittens should be spayed and neutered at 12 weeks.

Make sure mom has plenty of wet food meals and both dry kibble and water 24/7. She needs extra nutrition for nursing.

Keep bedding clean, and give mom some supervised time outside the kennel to stretch and have a break each day. Are you able to give mom and kittens a private room away from other pets? That would be ideal.

Any other questions please ask! :)
I have a question...
I took in a pregnant stray. She had just 2 kittens, and I am keeping them all.
I just had the Mama spayed, her kittens are 9 weeks old.
The kittens still nurse sometimes, and the vet said to keep them separated for the 3 days that the pains meds are in the Mama's system. They used Buprenex SR.
My question is won't the drugs still be in her milk? (they can't "pump & dump")Everything I'm not reading says not to use Buprenex with nursing cats.
So, now do I have to keep them apart until her milk dries up? I am so upset at the thought.

No, you don’t need to separate them. If mama doesn’t feel like nursing she’ll let her babies know. I had the pregnant stray I took in spayed at 8 weeks. She came home after a half day at the vet for surgery and nursed 4 kittens immediately. She had 3 days of Buprenex too. What little gets in the milk does not hurt the kittens. I kept all mine too! Big happy cat family 4 years later! :)

I almost cried reading your response. Mama wants to see her kids. I hope you are right. I tend to do more than enough research before making decisions. But I feel I dropped the ball on the nursing/medication, and that this beautiful feline family would pay for it. I am still concerned, but at least less so. Thank you, thank you.

I hope the reunion is happy! The kittens will be fine. My vet did not even tell me to keep them apart. :)
