I just can't believe how expensive the vet meds are! I have an elderly tabby that's needed more medication over the last year and I just want to know how everyone manages these responsibilities financially. I've finally found an online pharmacy that can help cut down on these expenses but they only offer human meds (ie. I can get puffers and a blood pressure meds from them because it's the same as medication that humans use). I've been happy with their service but they can't help me with anti-parasitics that are only used for animals.

Do you guys purchase these items from your vet or is there a supplier online that you know of?

Thanks!

Nicola and Sybil

Istanbul is too expensive on that as well. To give an idea the minimum wage is 2,000 Turkish lira, you can't find a rental less than 1,000 anywhere in Istanbul, and the vet exam without any test or medication alone cost 125. One type of blood test, several hundreds. Hima's food cost couple hundreds a month. :(

I prioritize them and barrow money when needed. Between my dog being senior and the cat having mysterious health problems this year, 95% of the money I made and left from the bills went to them. I can't get a credit card unfortunately so I had to barrow money from friends three times this year. Since I spent yet another +1,000 at the vet last month, their health account went down 0 - I'm currently getting more freelance work to save up money. I buy all medical stuff from the vet or pharmacy, wherever the vet directs me to.

Also some brands are more expensive than the others. Flevox for example is cheaper than Bayer, Frontline, Revolution, etc and I promise for outer parasites it works so much better on Hima. (The vet clinic I go to sells Flevox too.)

There are different opinions on this but if your cat is indoor-only and is on a monthly flea medicine, I don't think a dewormer is needed every 2 months like some sources suggest. In Istanbul's climate, I use a dewormer every 3 months on Hima -- either Caniverm pill or Profender spot on. But Flevox every month in warm weather/1,5 months in the winter.

For veterinary medicines, both prescription and non-prescription, try an online pet pharmacy such as 1800PetMeds.com They'll likely contact your vet directly for a copy of the prescription if needed.

My vet usually calls the long term things into my pharmacy. I don't find them expensive BUT I did have my one cat on prozac and I had that made up at the compound pharmacy as a fish flavor paste and that was expensive.

Also if you need a compounded medication (something out of the ordinary - my cat was on chemotherapy), have your Vet check in to ordering from Roadrunner Pharmacy out of Arizona. My cat's chemo was very reasonable (a 10 week supply for 50 dollars), they shipped directly to my house, and they always put cat toys in the package.

I use 1800petmeds.com same as Lt53. They may send a cookie with the prescription, which makes the package rattle. Or that may only be for dogs.

you can check the GoodRx for pets here

I use Hulda Clark's herbal antiparasitic extract called Clarkia. It's a tincture of three herbs: unripe black walnut rinds, clove and wormwood. These three herbs taget the eggs, larva and adult worms. It's available online without an rx. A 4oz bottle is about $40 and lasts a long time because the dose is one drop per 10lbs of cat for 2 weeks, week break and then for another 2 weeks. Then repeat every three or four months. I've been using it for years. I'm quite happy with the results. She passed away a few years ago and fortunately there are people who still keep her online store open so I can reorder. I order from these folks.

Welcome to sbherbalremedies

I use Chewy and Diamondback in AZ....these have been for dog meds but I was entirely satisfied with both. Diamondback is a compounding pharmacy.

Thank you all so much! I'm going to go with my usual pharmacy (Canada Cloud Pharmacy) for over-lapping human meds just because they're closer and can ship quicker and supplement anything that they don't carry with 1800 pet meds.

Thank you thank you thank you
