My cat is pregnant and it's the first time she's been pregnant and the first time I've ever had a pregnant cat. I don't know when she got pregnant because it was an accident. We just moved here a few months ago and she got out in the process. I didn't think she would get pregnant since she wasn't out for very long and we live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors, so I didn't think there were any other cats around. I do plan to get her fixed after the babies. Anyways, so I was rubbing her belly and realized tonight that I could feel like the bulges under her nipples, like her milk is starting to build up. If that makes sense, I really don't know how else to explain it. I don't think I've felt this the whole time she's been pregnant, but I could be wrong? Do they always have those milk bulges or does it come when she's getting close to going in labor? I tried to see if any milk came out but nothing.

Cats are pregnant between 58-67 days.

When the cat is gaining weight she is around in her middle stage. During pre-labor, her nipples will be very visible and milk drops may also be observed. You can help her by providing a nesting box for her, and place in an area in the house which is not frequented by people.

When she is ready to give birth, she will start licking her genitals and you may even hear her making noises of discomfort. Just keep your distance but at the same time make sure she is comfie, unless you see that there really is a need to rush her to the vet.

As soon as the kittens are weaned, she should be spayed.

Here’s a helpful article: How Do I Know When My Cat Will Give Birth?

I don’t think the milk “builds up”, she’s probably just moving along in her pregnancy. You’ll notice milk production starting when you see colostrum being secreted, which starts a day or two before delivery.

It’s normal for the mammaries to enlarge as you describe. It’s pregnancy hormones at work getting her body ready to do its job! :)

She ended up going into labor tonight. So far there are 5. 1 tabby, 1 black, 2 orange and a gray. I feel like she has one more in there. Guess we will see. Lucy is doing so great.
