Why Did My Extreme Flat Face Female Persian Itch The Skin Off Above Her Nose?

My 8yr old female Extreme Flat Faced Tortoise Shell Smoke Persian itched above her nose so hard that she began bleeding! I wiped the area with a warm,wet facecloth and then wiped the wound with chlorhexidine antiseptic wipes. I was told that this breed has itchy noses but why? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again and make her more comfortable?

An e-collar would temporarily keep the cat from scratching at the face until you can get to the vet. Itching can be caused by any number of things: seasonal allergies, food allergies, dusty litter, parasites, etc.

I never heard Persians were suppose to have itchy noses. Fleas, or allergies can be the reason. Also keeping her eyes clean can help avoid facial irritations.
