I wear glasses. I first got them in 2011. I will get a prescription from the doctor but I buy my glasses off Zennis. The last doctor I went to dilated my eyes and then did the vision check, so my prescription was very wrong. They did that for every patient which seems messed up to me. I need to make an appointment to get my eyes checked (somewhere else) but I keep forgetting to call.

I get my glasses online at Zenni.
How do they know how to align the lenses? Does there seem to be any trouble with that?

I figure I'll buy a few spare pairs from a cheap online source after I have my regular glasses. If it works out maybe I'll get all my glasses there.

They have a printable gauge with which you can measure your interpupillary distance. That, your prescription and lens and frame choices are all they need. I am very comfortable with all the ones I have ordered, but you have to spend some time to figure out what works for you. They have a FAQ that explains what you need to know to make the correct choices in your order. Spend some time reading the FAQ if you are not knowledgeable about glasses and prescriptions.

You might take a pair of your glasses that fit you well and measure the frame width, bridge width and temple arm length and then search for frames with those measurements. The frames are searchable for all of the above measurements, lens height and width, color, material, weight and other things. You can also upload a picture and see how the glasses look on you.

That's what I did. The first ones I got there were inexpensive.

I researched Zenni online. They get very high ratings.

I've worn contacts for over 50 years. I also have a severe astigmatism but have done fine. My eyesight is about that of a bat, I am really bad without them can only see the shape of a stop sign. I have alsways worn gas permeable, which are hard ones. MUCH easier to insert/take out, I have tried soft twice over the years and absolutely hated them. Hard to get in, harder yet to get out, and a nightmare to care for. I can leave mine out on the counter overnight if I wanted to. I have always hated glasses, my nose is striaght and narrow they just look plain funny on my face. My mother would not pay for contacts because she said my eyes were too 'sensitive' when I was 13, (to sun and dust etc,) so that is when I got my first job and bought my own. I don't even own a pair of glasses, I hate them that much......

I'm going to check them out. I had to get my son glasses yesterday and with insurance they weren't too bad; but still! I heard good things about Walmart; but none of ours have an optical center.

I've gotten my last several pairs from Lenscrafters and Sears; but now our Sears is gone. One other department store has an optical center I can look at. Otherwise the various eye doctors have selections; but since I don't go to those practices I'm not wandering in to shop. My eye doctor is a small, 2 doctor practice. Their selection is very small and I tend to try on a ton of frames before deciding on something I like. I really like the practice though; the doctor does 90% of the exam. Not their techs!

I'm skeptical about buying for myself online. The width can be an issue; but sliding down my nose has always been an issue. DS and I both seem to have a big/wide head; so a lot of the kids glasses were too narrow. Quite a few didn't sit on his nose right either. And as the lady pointed out yesterday; he's only going to grow. Sorry kid.
