Our new 9 week old kittens came home today. They were neutered yesterday. They did okay but we tried to keep it low key. They ate well but 6 hours after eating, both threw up some food. It’s time for dinner. They are urinating but have not had bowel movements. What do I do?

Did you feed them the same food they are used to? If not, that could be the problem. If so, it could be anything, really, but it is strange that they both (not sure how many there are) threw up. Since they are very new to you, it could be nerves, as I said, it could be so many things. Try calling wherever you got them and see if this was ever an issue before, to start. But they definitely need to eat, since they are so young. You might try giving them some kitten milk replacement just to make sure they get something in their tummies until either you get some answers from wherever you got them from, or until a kitten expert comes along.

Thanks for the response. They both ate the same thing and it was what they were eating before - I made sure to have the same food. Thanks for answering. They are sleeping now.

I ended up feeding them 1/4 the regular amount of wet food - they went to sleep - between 10-11pm I’ll feed them 1/4 more. If a kitten expert comes by - any advice would be appreciated - thank you!

So, he threw up the 8pm feeding and didn’t want anything at 10pm. If it persists tomorrow I’ll take him to the 24 hour vet. I’m so sad that he’s sick but he’s playing like a crazy man so go figure

I’m not a kitten expert. I would be taking them to the vet! Until then I would give them small portions of 1/2 unflavored pedialite and half chicken baby food (that is garlic and onion free.) I would give them a small amount or a spoonful per kitten per hour/every other hour if need be, to not over fill their bellies.

I hope they recover and it is just a weird response to the anesthesia.

They did really well through the night. Got up happy and playful. Hank, the one who was sick, ate only 1/4 can of wet food but he drank water and was very playful this morning. They have both done their business so I’m keeping a very watchful eye. If he throws up today we’re going straight to the vet today. If not, then we have our regular vet appointment on Tuesday. I appreciate your response and I’m also hoping it had something to do with the only having a bowel movement once, anesthesia and the excitement of a new home.

You can always use pedialyte. Clear flavorless pedialyte for babies or a homemade.

If they vomit much as soon they eat anything, the trick is to give just a few drops but often.
The stomach never notices it, and thus no vomiting.
