Hi all,

My poor mom has had one thing after another with her cats, both her two personal ones and the small colony of six that she feeds. One of the kittens (8ish months?) has discharge/goop in both of his eyes. He cannot be caught, she has tried. She has also exhausted herself financially, having taken in two other ferals and her indoor kitty in all within the last few months. Is there anything she can do for this kitten? Anything over the counter that she could add to food that would help him?

Thank you!

@catsknowme any natural remedies for the eyes?

When you say he can’t be caught. There are tricks. It’s really a matter of not giving up. If she needs tips to get him, maybe we can help. They are pretty smart but lots of people have come up with ways to get around that.
Boost his system in any way possible with nutrition too. Keep him warm and dry if possible. Keep us posted.

What color us the eye goop? If it's clear, the infection is likely viral. Green or yellow indicates bacterial. Viral can quickly turn to bacterial as well. If bacterial, her best bet is to mix antibiotics in his food. If her vet won't prescribe an antibiotic because the cat hasn't been seen, she can legally order Fish Mox online, which is Amoxicillin. She can inquire of her vet about dosing information. Most vets will provide direction in these kinds of situations where a feral can't be trapped and examined. Your aunt could take a picture of the cat's eyes and email it to her vet for the vet's input. At least, this has been my experience in these kinds if situations.
