Hi everyone!

Ive been reading here alot lately but have some questions that i really wanted to ask. Well actually i have one main question wich is : is my cat pregnant or not? So this is the story..
I have this beautiful 2 year old female cat I have breeded. She never had a litter before and i brought her with the breeding male on januari 19th. In the afternoon. She started her heath cycle the day before. On that day there wasnt much action going on according to the owner. But there were succesfull breedings in the following days. So the owner contacted me i could pick her up because she wasnt interested in breeding anymore. I picked her up the 23th. Everything went well she stopped calling right away. 20 ish days later her nipples started pinking. She was getting bigger ,affectionate, needy ,hungry ,lazy everything a pregnant cat should do/be. From the beginning ive been mixing in kitten food with the normal food and giving her more wet food than normal. But two weeks ago she started having diarrhea. Don't know the reason yet but she was having problems with shedding soo maybe hair build up?? She's had some hairballs in the litterbox but i dont know wich way they came out. So i went and bought some powder that clears the intestans for problems with diarrhea constipation and hairballs. And that seemed to work because 3 days later the stool was back to normal again. I weighed her then to monitor.
So fast forward to today. She should be due in about 2 weeks now. But i dont think her tummy got really bigger in the last two weeks. If you see her her belly looks fuller than it really is because shes a longhair. And if i pet her it just seems kind of flat. But she gained 500gr. Also i dont feel any movement yet. I was just wondering if you always have to feel them? How is that with small litters of only 2 or something? I just dont think she looks like she's having kittens in 2 weeks. I dont want to take her to vet for exams because i don't want to stress her right now. But im really second guessing her pregnancy right now and im affraid shes having a phantom pregnancy. Or maybe that she was pregnant but something happened when she was having diarrhea 2 weeks ago. Is that possible? Does anyone know till what term of the pregnancy she can absorb? She didnt push anything out i would have deffinatly seen something. And if a cat miscariage when should the heath cycle start again normally? Im just hoping someone can ease my worrying.

Hello Curiosacatmo, welcome to TCS. When you say "breeding" I suppose that you mean "mating"? If she was mated between the 19and 23rd january she could be 52/53 days pregnant and your vet could easily confirm this. Her nipples should be quite pink by now. Have you weighed her when mated and now? Have you felt any movements inside her tummy?

Thanks for the reply and yess i mean mating. I didnt weigh her before mating and really regret that. But i guess she weighed between 2500gr.and 3000gr. And she now is 4200gr. I placed a picture of her nipples i dont know if you can see it? They are a lot larger than beforehand.i don't feel any movement at all.

Has she not been to a vet? It's very important for her to have a check-up, if not. The vet can confirm pregnancy. If she's not pregnant and she's still that big, something else may be going on health-wise.

No as i said before she has not seen a vet because she is/ was fine. Except for the diarrhea 2 weeks ago. When that happend I tried the powder and if it wouldnt have worked i would have brought her to the vet obviously. But it got better right away. And yess I know the signs of pregnancy and yess she got them. But as i said before her tummy isnt as big as i would think it would be 7 out of the 9 weeks pregnant. And also i dont feel any movement. Is there any one who had a pregnant cat with a small(er) tummy. And when should i for sure feel or any kitten movement?

Since she bred with a male cat, she is probably pregnant. Cats are very prolific breeders. It’s usually about two weeks before delivery that you can start to feel movement, so you should start to feel something soon, but every cat pregnancy is a little different. While the average gestation length is 64 days, up to 67 days is still considered the “normal range”, so she might just be taking a bit longer.

You need to take her to a vet to be sure things are progressing well. You need the emergency numbers in case things go wrong after hours. Things can go bad quickly. Even if things don't go bad she could need an emergency C-section. You need to be able to get in touch with your vet and have it done before the kittens die inside her. Don't go by what the breeder who sold her to you says. Even if her mother delivered 10-18 litters fine, it doesn't mean your cat will.

You should read all the articles here on pregnant cats and raising kittens. There is no promise that your cat will be well enough to raise the kittens or that she'll want to. You need to have supplies on hand in case you need to hand feed them every two hours 24/7 for a couple of weeks. Yes, really.

I agree that a vet check-up would be a good idea.

Even if she seems fine, it's important for her to go to the vet for a pregnancy wellness exam (for the reasons listed by other members above). You would then know for sure how far along she is as well. After all, human women go to the doctor when they're pregnant too, for many of the same reasons.

You came here asking for help concerning her pregnancy -- it makes sense to check in with a vet!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I did have seeked out a vet and contacted them a few weeks ago about her pregnancy. They told me if everything goes well and she is healthy it is not really nessesary to bring her in. I can bring her in for an x ray if i want to know the number of kittens but thats quite expencive so id rather save that money for emergencies(like c cection or kitten formula etc) I have their number and a back up if anything goes wrong. Ive been reading a lot and watching on youtube. Also i keep in contact with the breeder where i brought her for mating. Her 2 females recently gave birth and she's been answering my questions where she can. But all her cats seem to get really big in their pregnancy and she also has no experiance with falce pregnancies. And for the movement she said don't worry it will be fine be patient. And i feel a bit silly now because i just watched her sleep and I SAW THEM MOVE ! And i put my hand on her in that spot en got kicked.Yaayy soo everything is fine and she has at least one kitten in there. For the supplies i allready have a lot in. But only need some little things for around the birth. I made some nests for her and she's in there sleeping all the time but no real nesting like digging or shoving things around. I do still need to buy some kmr . I wanted to buy before to give her some allready but i dont think shell like it because shes really picky. Should i try anyway? She now is getting unlimited dry food. A mix of royal canin instinctive and a good brand of grain free high meat percentage kitten food. I still mix because otherwise she wont eat it. Twice a day she gets wet food either for kitten or high percentage meat for adult. Every day she gets a dose of vitamin gel . And treats to boost the imune system. Do i need anything else?

Hi everyone! It's been a couple of days now and I feel and see kitten(s) moving now eyeryday. It's so cute! but i still don't think she's really big. So maybe there is only one? How common is that. I'll post a pic of her maybe you guys can tell me what you think? Is there anyone here who had a cat with only one kitten? What did momma cat look like and where there any troubles in the delivery?
Also I have a question about nutricion. I noticed she's having problems with soft stool if shes eating the royal canin mother and baby cat. I gave her the dry food mixed in with her regular. And i also tried the cans with the soft mouse. But now i know for sure she gets soft stool from that so i dont give her anymore. Now i have another brand of dry food mixed in. And give her the regular wet food. Is that enough? Is there anything i need to do about her calcium intake?

I'm not sure about number of babies, but others will be along to answer that.

Food changes can upset any cat's tummy, so it may just be the transition that's giving her diarrhea. It's actually easier on them to change wet food than dry food. Can you get the Mother and Babycat pate? That's what my kittens ate for the first four months of their lives.

Well ive been doing the transit really carefully. But i just think it's that type and brand thats been giving her diarrhea. The pathe makes her stink also. But shes so picky because i tried other brands highquality kitten wetfood but she does not eat it. Ive tried cheap brands of kitten wetfood and she would eat that. But i was wondering if you guys might know. What is better for her while pregnant. High quality adult wet food or grocery store kitten wet food? With the dry food i found a brand that shes not getting diarhea from and so mixing that with her regular but she still likes her regular better.

Expensive food isn't necessarily the best food. Where in the world are you located, and which foods are you comparing? Someone here might be familiar with those brands.

As far as how many kittens she has, different mother cats can carry their litters differently, some moms appear plumper than others when they are pregnant, so we can't tell just from looking at her. She might have just one kitten, or she might have multiple kittens and just not look very big. At this time in pregnancy, the most reliable way to determine how many kittens she is carrying would be to have her x-rayed. Or you can just wait and see how many she has.

Don't go by the vet's hand count, get the x-ray. It's best to know in case she doesn't deliver one and you need to rush her to the vet. You know, just to be sure, just so you know when to relax a little.

She's very pretty.

Thank you! Im from holland . The dry food brand im giving her now mixed in with royal canin savour exigent (her regular) i think is a dutch brand called: Renske. Its a premium non grain kitten food with high percentage (i believe like %75) of chicken.
Well this is what ive tried on wet food.
Royal canin mother and baby cat first stage soft mouse : she liked it but gets loose smelly stools.
Almo nature HFC kitten : she doesnt eat it.
Almo nature HFC chicken filet: she likes
Whiskas kitten the pouches in sauce: she first licks off all the sause and if she gets really hungry again she will eat some of the "meat".
She also gets the gourmet soup as a treat. I just want her to get all the right nutricion in there. As for the amount of kittens i gues i just wait it out. Im just very scared something goes wrong. Im never gonna do this again im so scared my baby gets hurt.

Thank you! I know youre right about the xray and ive been really thinking about that but keep hesitating if its best for her or only to easy my worried mind. See shes kind of a picky eater and when shes stressed out her appetite goes away. And i dont want her to miss any nutricion now. What would you do? Get the xray anyway? Im just not sure whats best.

I would get the x-ray without hesitation. Knowing how many kittens she has can save her life. If a kitten dies inside her, it will go toxic to her in a matter of hours. If the dead kitten isn't removed, your cat will die. You need to know this. It is one of the advantages of living in the modern world. It is true of all animals not just cats. No surprise twins for humans either.
