Is Canned Chicken Put Into A Blender Good To Force-feed A Sick Cat

I have a very old cat (stray) who is very sick. The doctor didn't run tests on him because she thinks he is near the end. She gave him medication for his sinuses that flared up really bad, and also prednosine for to help him with whatever else might be ailing him (e.g., cancer, or liver shutting down). He is very weak, and comatose for large portions of the day. But I am keeping his weight at 8 pounds. He eats on his own somewhat, plus I also force feed him. Usually I give him Hills a/d urgent care when I force feed him. But tonight I tried something different. I put canned chicken into the blender, and added some of the chicken water that it was packed in. I blended it to a smooth consistency. I am a little bit worried though that maybe this chicken water wasn't good for him. I read the ingredients and it has seasonings in it, and salt. What do you think? Also do you have any recommendations of what I can force-feed him to keep his weight up? Thank you

Yeah, canned chicken has a lot of salt. But pureed chicken is an excellent food for sick cats. Can you boil some plain unseasoned chicken and use that instead?

Royal Canin Babycat canned food mixed with chicken baby food (or pureed chicken) is my choice for sick cats and assist-feeding. Babycat is smooth and has extra nutrients. You can also use Hills Prescription a/d but you have to get that from a vet, whereas most pet stores have Babycat.

Thank you. Yes I can boil some chicken. I never thought of that. What will I use to for liquid to get the right consistency? I feed him using a syringe. Also, I bought human baby food (chicken), but it was too lumpy to come out of the syringe. Maybe I could puree it for a smoother consistency. I never heard of Royal Canin Babycat. I will check it out. Thanks again. He is sleeping very well right now, curled up. He hasn't curled up to sleep in days. I think he chicken might have helped him feel better.

Just use the chicken boiling water, or even tap water. The boiling water probably has extra taste.

What brand of baby food did you try? I've never had it be lumpy, eww. I use Gerber. It might clump up too much for a syringe if you take it straight from the jar. Try stirring it first, that usually gets it to a better consistency. Warming it a little helps too.

And, yeah, kitten formula is great too, for extra calories and nutrients.

Thanks, mine was Gerber as well, I stirred it, but it clogged up. Fancy Feast has these packets of broth and small pieces of various meat that I like to feed my cats. I think I will buy a couple of packets and add the broth to the boil chicken when I puree it.

You could also use some kitten formula to add nutrients and liquid?
thanks, I will see if I can find kitten formula at the pet store. I'm not sure what it is.

It's usually a powder called KMR (kitten milk replacer) that you reconstitute in water. Or they come in aluminum soda cans as a liquid. Here is one popular one in the US:

It's usually with health and bath stuff vs with food
