Cat Screaming At Night

Hi everyone !

My 2 years old persian cat Darcy screams (meows VERY loudly) in the middle of the night. It begins between 2am and 4am, then goes on until we wake up.

Darcy has access to everything he needs (food, water, litter box, toys,...), even our bedroom. But nothing changes, he keeps screaming like a banshee.
He never acted like that before but it's been almost three weeks he wakes us up every single night.

Do you have any idea why he does that ? Have you ever had a similar case ? Is he suffering from something ?

Hi Forsythia , I would start by taking him to the vet for a full medical check up, including blood and urine tests.

Hi there! I agree with She's a witch . But, is it possible that you have a neighbor/stray/feral cat outside that is in the proximity of your outside area? This is typically when outdoor cats go wandering, and your Darcy may sense it/them.
Is Darcy neutered? If not, that might make even worse.

First, I'd like to welcome you to TCS! Second, I'm glad you came here for advice and support although sorry to hear about the problem with your 2 year old Persian cat. BTW, Darcy is absolutely gorgeous.

Homer does this at night. I asked him about it, and he said he was just singing...

Seriously though something may be outside and she may be scared. Usually a raccoon, or another cat, but he goes nuts if it's a skunk. If I get up and do a check of all windows and doors and turn on the lights and turn them off and go back to bed he will be satisfied he is not in danger and come back to bed.

That's true, as Darcy is an indoor cat, we didn't thought about having him neutered.

You really should. Unneutered males can start with urine spraying/marking even after 2. And it causes other misc. behavior issues.

Hello everyone ! Back from the vet, and it seems Darcy is fine, what a relief.
He gets just a little stressed out because there might be other cats strolling nearby the house and the little man gets all dominant !
The vet strongly advised to have him neutered.

Glad Darcy got a clean bill of health. I would definitely follow your vet's advice about getting him neutered.

It's totally normal for whole male cats to scream like that. Neutering has a good chance of changing that behavior
