Oscar is already on a low carb diet, which we started him on when we got a little paranoid about urinary tract problems in cats. But it has recently dawned on us that he's now about the same age as one of our cats that we lost to complications from diabetes several years ago. So even though he was A-OK during his last checkup, we thought we might fine tune his diet a bit more, just to be on the safe side.

I know that Fussie Cat adds fructooligosaccharides, which IIRC, is a form of sugar that some cat food companies include as a prebiotic. And I've seen sugar and caramel listed as ingredients in some foods. Are there any other forms of sugar we should be on the lookout for?

Anything with an -ose ending will be a sugar (glucose, fructose, galactose), as will anything that’s called a “saccaride”.

Thanks! That's a huge help. :)

I was a little worried that I'd find a ton of stuff since Oscar prefers cheaper foods. But I only found a couple with dextrose. Whew!
