My new kitten is literally afraid of the box? I've never had this issue before. He acts like its after or something and wont go near it. Anytime I put him in it the second his paws touch hes gone. And hes using my floor as his bathroom and idk what to do :(

maybe it's the litter, but maybe it's the box. have you tried a different box yet?

what litter are you using?

I have a few suggestion that I hope can help
Consider the location of the litter box :
Maybe your new kitten has a negative experience (like a sudden loud noise that scare him) on the current location of the litter box. Try placing the litter box on a different location
- Place the litter box in a location with low traffic (from people walking around the house)
- Place the litter box in a room with a 360 escape path (specially if you have other pets with you). Your kitten may feel cornered

Take him to the Vet (for health issue like UTI). Cats tend to hide their pain. They wont tell you " Hey there is something wrong with me" Instead they will give you signs like avoiding the litter box. Your kitten might be thinking "Hey If I go there it would cause me pain" so they would totally avoid the litter box

Its better if you fix this issues as early as possible for your kitten. He might develop a negative association with litter box. As the time goes by I believe it will be harder to fix :)

I hope it helps :compsurfing:

Hello and welcome to TCS. Congrats on the new kitten. How old is he? Was he using the litter box before you adopted him? If so, try using the same litter and litter box size. Also, is he the only cat? Or are there other cats/animals in the home?

Here's a TCS article on How To Train Kittens To Use The Litter Box that may be helpful.
