I'm sorry for the super late edition today. I didn't even get to sit at the computer till 8pm today!

How do you deal with the afternoon energy slump?

I normally limit my caffeine; but some days I go for an iced tea in the afternoon. I've been trying to have the kids get up and stretch or do some kind of silly dancing with me to get our blood moving. Other days I go stretch across my bed and read something mindless for a bit. It seems to help too. And the kids don't let me fall asleep. ;)

I don't really do anything. My job has me on my feet a lot, so I'm rarely just sitting and working which is when I get energy slumps.

On work days, I take a really late lunch (I work 10 hour days, and I put in 6.5 of that before I take my lunch). Most of my co-workers are *back* from lunch an hour before I go to lunch.

On non-work days (I do a compressed schedule, so three of seven), I'm not afraid to take a page from my furry friends and take a nap. Preferably with one or two of my felines.

Things I try for afternoon energy slumps -

-water if I think I'm behind on hydration
-something chocolate/sweet, this is a huge mistake for me, however. I often strongly crave this after lunch but it makes me more tired:sleep2:
-coffee
-fresh air
-snacks like crackers or almonds

I try to drink a diet Dr. Pepper with my lunch to avoid the slump, but it doesn't always work. I'm retired too, so if I feel overwhelmed with fatigue, I take a nap. The kitties do whatever I do, but they don't sleep with me much anymore in the afternoons.

Caffeine really doesn't "perk me up". If I am really nodding in the afternoon, I will get up and walk around, sometimes go outside for a few minutes.
