I have been doing a lot of reading and it seems that Wellness and Blue Buffalo are being linked with causing UTIs in cats and even some dogs. My vet does not recommend Blue and has said he has seen many sick pets come in and they’ve had Blue as their diet as a common factor. All that said, how much truth is there to this? I’m afraid of trying those brands even though they seem to have good ingredients. I know there are bad stories to just about every brand but these two come up a lot for the same issue. I don’t like the amount of recalls Blue has had either.

Has anyone here had any issues with feeding these brands?

I have read about the brands and causing uti. I don't believe everything I read about it. How are people 100% sure the food what caused it. Because of all the recalls blue buffalo has and the debate years ago with friskies claiming that bb was lying about their ingredients, I do not buy bb. The owner of bb did admit to it. My cats eat wellness core plus other brands-weruva,daves,and tiki. No problems. Very active and healthy weight. Beautiful coats

I've read about some nasty things with Blue.
Not so much Wellness, but I'm sure the complaints are there.
If we fed a commercial diet, Blue would have been at the top of our list when they first hit the market but we'd pass today.

I feed Wellness and have not had problems - and my bf's cat has been on it even longer without problems. Most of the stuff I read about utis was close to five years ago, and I know they've reformulated since then (they finally took out carrageenan in the past year), so maybe they've solved most of their problems? Or maybe we've just been lucky.

I dont know how much credibility to give the stories either. I think if someones cat gets sick on a particular food, we are quick to blame the food, even though they may have developed the illness on a totally different brand as well.

I think a lot of people feed Blue, and wellness, which may be part of the reason there are so many different stories about it? :dunno:

my cats are not fans of either brand, so i dont feed them, i tried several years ago and no one liked it. They will occasionally eat the core chicken turkey and liver, but thats it.

I personally don't buy BB due to all of the recalls/controversy around them, and I remember reading a horror story of some dogs being poisoned by a recalled batch. I feed my two kitties Wellness CORE for a large part of their diet though and so far no issues.

Petco currently has come Wellness on clearance at many stores and I've been tempted to try it at the discounted price because that way if he doesn't like it, I didn't pay full price to throw it away. That's the reason I'm looking up reviews on the brands but came across a lot of the negatives.
