What Did I Just Witness...

So, Price is neutered and Nikita is spayed, but as I'm watching tv I see both cats waking from slumber. Prince proceeds to climb on top of Nikita while stretching (arcs his back upwards), I glance away and look back, and it looks like he' in the same position with her getting up and moving away from him.

So....did I just see a neutered cat trying to hump another cat, or are my eyes playing tricks on me? *blinks*

Oh it's definitely possible. My neutered male cat will hump any cat or kitten, no matter the gender. I've heard some people say its a dominance thing, some say that it feels good, and others say its just an instinctual thing!

My neutered male cat does it to pillows for year. He finds just the right corner on a square one when he's feeling anxious and goes to town.

We introduced a small rescue female to our resident male, both fixed. He rode her incessantly for a week or more. It was all about inserting his dominance. After that was accomplished it was over.

We have 2 neutered males. When Sqeeker is eating crunchies Yoshi will often hold him by the scruff and move his hips. For the most part Sqeeker ignores him. Sometimes he purrs other times he turns and bats him off. Yoshi is the alpha and Sqeeker is always seeking Yoshi cuddles so it's not a bad thing here.

My neutered male will jump on Lily quite often. He doesn't hump, but he's definitely in the mating position, holding her by the scruff of her neck and completely covering her. I think it's a dominance move, too.
