Hi everyone. I picked up a momma and 6 kittens last night. The mom was a skittish stray someone trapped from their workplace. I got them when they were 2 days old. They all look healthy and seem to be constantly nursing. Mom looks healthy and purrs and makes biscuits. The only thing is I haven’t seen her stimulate them. I tried to pee them this morning and only 3 of 6 had pee. I gave her a can of wet food last night and she loved it, so she’s eating and drinking. She also hasn’t used the litter box since I got her, but I guess it’s only been about 10 hours. The person I got them from mentioned what a messy litter box user she is, so I assume she was going fine.
First weigh in:
Grey 130
Blk 132
BW. 140
Cali. 133
GW. 122
Dcali. 125

So as I was writing this, I saw one of them drip, so I stimulated and was able to pee him. If I shove their butts in the moms face she just gives me a funny look.

What do y’all think? Thanks!

So precious! They are lucky to have you caring for them!

I had a foster mom with 3 kittens and they were so tiny (half the size of other kittens their age) I worried she wasn't able to potty them because they were so underdeveloped. My assisting helped, but I think she must have done it in private too, because none of them got ill and they grew up to become healthy 8-week-olds. Every few hours you can give it a try, but don't stress unless one has a hard belly and seems to be crying or struggling.

Keep us updated on the little guys!! :D

Thanks for your kind words. Last year was my first year fostering and I had my hands full will poo problems. I was hoping this year would be a little smoother. Everyone seems happy and content though, so maybe I’m just being a worry wart.

Does this look abnormal to anyone? It’s not hard and he doesn’t appear to be in pain, at first I thought it was a full bladder.

I was finally able to get him to pee using a wet piece of toilet paper.

I saw fleas too when I was helping the black one, so I gave mom some revolution and they all got flea combed. Only managed to get 2 fleas this go round.

It looks like the scrotum sac to me. If so, he should grow into it.

Mom is probably licking the kittens to stimulate them when you are not around.

Feed her lots of wet food while she is nursing. Has she used the litter box by now?

Thanks for fostering this family!

She used the restroom after 25 hours and had over a foot of poop! I think she was backed up. I went ahead and gave her some pyrantel after I found out she had fleas. I’m also giving her as much canned kitten food as she wants. When I picked her up, she had water and some crappy store brand food. I looked at my camera last night and it did indeed look like she was cleaning them, maybe she didn’t feel good yesterday.

The downside of her feeling better, since she is semi-feral, is she’s running around the room avoiding me.

It sounds like she needs time to adjust. At least she pooped! :)

BTW, everyone gained at least 10grams in 24 hours, so she’s doing a good job feeding them!
